Flesh Wound Question

Rules Questions

So the description reads:

Flesh Wound (Ex): Once per rage, the barbarian can try to avoid serious harm from an attack. The barbarian must make a Fortitude save with a DC equal to the damage that would be dealt by the attack. The barbarian's armor check penalty applies on this saving throw. If the save succeeds, the barbarian takes half damage from the attack and the damage is nonlethal. The barbarian must elect to use this ability after the attack roll is made, but before the damage is rolled. A barbarian must be at least 10th level to select this rage power.

I was in an a discussion with a fellow player who was certain that this only applied to "normal" attacks. It would not negate damage from energy or magic, specifically those that allow saving throws for half damage. So a fireball or a will'o'wisp electrical attack would hit at full effect. But would it work against a Magic Missle that does not have any saves normally?

I disagreed, stating that no limits such as these are listed and it should apply to all types of attacks.

Thoughts?

You are correct. Tell him to compare the text to the similar Rogue talent, Defensive Roll, which DOES have the limits he's talking about, and then have him get back to you.

Many thanks. It will be of most use against those energy attacks that my DR won't cover.
