Came up in our game tonight, since we have both a lich and a grave knight in the party, one of which has an aura that causes fear without a clearly stated way to stop causing fear, and the other has an aura that negates fear immunity, without a clearly stated way to stop negating everyone's fear immunity.
This could cause problems for our party. Like, for example, the inability to function as a party.
Comments are welcome. I was always under the impression that auras in general were optional things that PCs could take down if they wanted to. Is this not true? I can't seem to find a rule or ruling that states it.

Fear Aura (Su) The use of this ability is a free action. The aura can freeze an opponent (as in the case of a mummy’s despair) or function like the fear spell. Other effects are possible. A fear aura is an area effect. The descriptive text gives the size and kind of the area.
Since it is a free action it is not constantly going. I will check on the other aura in a moment.

Edit: I do not see an aura that negates fear immunity on either the Lich or the Graveknight. Which one has it and what is the aura that does it?

As discussed elsewhere, the graveknight's sacrilegious aura is part of its creation and nature. The aura is constantly active and doesn't mention a way for the creature to suppress it. I haven't seen a general rule for a creature to suppress its supernatural abilities.
The sacrilegious aura impedes positive channelling and lay on hands, but doesn't affect fear immunity as far as I can see.

I don't mean this as criticism. If the DM has house-ruled that playing monsters is valid for PCs, they can just go ahead and house-rule that doing so is workable.
Unless stated otherwise, abilities are always on. Darkvision just works. Auras just work. Abilities that require actions to activate them are a different story of course.
