Silver Crusade

Trying to figure out the best strategy and i think family heirloom with a weapon that has bonuses to trip so i could focus on tripping enemies. which book would have such weapons? also im not sure where to find the gnomish hooked hammer.

Mounted Barbarian + Boon Companion + Lance is your most optimal route.

Power Attack, Mounted Combat, Spirited Charge, Ride By Attack will take you 7th level.

Also, check out Trinams new Barbarian guide (thread.is kicking around somewhere on the Advice board).

Have you considered the Urban Barbarian?
Going dex focused will have a lot more benefits for the gnome.

Silver Crusade

hmm. well i could try to make him a aasimar gnome so i can change the stats and add a twist to the story. the campaign is based at the beginning of time where the only weapon i can get a hold of at the start are bronze and stone weapons. still looking for the book to find my hooked hammer info.

Tripping is a bad plan - being small gives you a +1 to attack but a -1 to CMB.

Silver Crusade

i see. will change my strategy. thanks.

Hooked hammer is in Core Rulebook. PRD link to weapons table

Still suggest mounted barbarian...bronze lance is plenty badass.

You can stay gnome, but being strength, or trip focused is a bad idea.

You could go Urban Barbarian, focus on the Scimitar, and nab the Dervish Dance feat.

If you want to, you can just bite the bullet.
Rage will get your strength up to the non-rage level of optimized barbarians. Invest in Weapon Focus or, better, Furious Focus. Try to capitalize on your constitution (Raging Brutality is in your future).

Both Dervish Dance and a mounted build are more optimized than this. But I have seen a strength based gnome fighter work as the main tank in a group. It was 3.5. but it was a fighter....

I'd say titan mauler even if you use it as written rather than the original designer's version you can by level 6 not have to worry about finding small sized weapons and a human bastard sword or falcata is better than a gnomish great sword.
