So quick question, that my search fu hasn't answered.
but can a Ranger selected Humanoid (extraplanar), or Outsider (extraplanar) as subtypes for favoured enemy?
it sounds super cheesy(at least with outsiders, seeing as all but Native have it on the material plane), but I'm not seeing anywhere saying that it's not a valid subtype target.
other than the fact that it's not on the list of subtypes, but neither is Catfolk, or Kyton, or well any of the more obscure subtypes.

Greetings, fellow traveller.
The list for favored enemies offers the entry Humanoid (other subtype) which would cover your ratfolk.
The kytons would fall under Outsider (evil) or Outsider (lawful). I don't see any benefit limiting my ranger to the much less diverse choice of Outsider (kyton), if I have the choice of much broader selection.
As with taking/allowing Outsider (extraplanar); it's not on the list and for Outsiders no entry similar to the Humanoid entry is offered, so no, you can't take it.
I addition, what benefit would it bring to the table? If your campaign takes place on the Material plane, all Outsiders will have the extraplanar subtype - true. But most likely you'll fight either the evil outsiders (standard AP) or the good ones (say, FMG's Way of the Wicked), in short you'll end up fighting one subtype of extraplanar creatures, where an entry already exists.
If your campaign involves visiting the Abyss your choice Outsider extraplanar will actually be disadvantageous to you since all creatures living there will be native outsiders!
Again, sticking with an established fav. enemy like Outsider (evil) is a much safer bet.
TL;DR?
You could take Outsider (extraplanar), but benefits are marginal.
Ruyan.

oh yeah, I agree and muchly prefer the broad-yet specifics of Outsider (evil) and it's ilk, but Outsider (extraplanar) also covers Antagonistic Celestials, Inevitables, Aeons, Proteans, plus you get the elementals as well, aside from being on a different plane, Hell you would also get any Celestial and Fiendish animals because their home plane are the upper/lower planes.
It just kind of seems like it's a far better choice than Outsider (evil), especially for Bane and the like.

The answer is no. The list is the list.
About the only thing which should be on it and isn't is (shapechanger), because that's ONLY a subtype, but it can be applied across multiple creatures.
It's interesting that you can take outsider (Fire), but can't just take ALL creatures with the Fire subtype.
