Here's the situation.

I'm a NG Paladin of Sarenrae from Katapesh. I've travelled from my homeland to Falcon's Hollow in Andoran specifically for the festival of the everflame. However as we all know, things are never simple in Golarion.

My first task when reaching Falcon's Hollow was to try to cure the town of a terrible plague. There was a local shop called 'Roots and Remedies' run by a woman called 'Laurel'. Her shop was overrun with the infected and I promptly set off with my new adventuring companions to find the required ingredients.

Once we returned to the town, we handed over the ingredients so that the towns people could be cured. Laurel's eyes immediately lit up with the thought of what she could charge for this remedy, which irked my character (Jalij) somewhat. I offered my services for free helping her administer the cure and donated my share of the gold from the mission to her so that people wouldn't have to pay.

With our current deeds resounding in people's ears we were selected for the task of lighting and bringing back the everflame lantern. After a gruelling and difficult mission fighting undead minions and skeletal champions we return once more to Falcon's Hollow victorious.

However, one of our party, a Barbarian by the name of Gallat has fallen ill and comes to me for aid. I diagnose the problem as a virulent form of zombie plague. I decide to revisit Laurel at Roots and Remedies. The shop has been completely re-decorated and when asking if she remembers me, her eyes gleam again and says 'ofcourse, it was thanks to you I've paid for all these renovations'.

I ask her for discretion, and mention that Gallat has fallen ill with zombie plague. She throws me a healers kit and locks the door.

The next day, while I begin treating Gallat in my room, there is a commotion, Thaldrun Kreed, his cronies and the sheriff have come for Gallat having heard a 'rumour' of zombie plague. I manage to hold them at the stairs while Gallat escapes out of the window.

So, to cut this story short. Here is my predicament:

Laurel of Roots and Remedies has clearly profited off my generosity and aid. To have found out the profit she made off my bringing back the ingredients was considerable angers me.

Secondly, she has betrayed my confidence and trust by reporting what I'd asked her to keep a secret to the sheriff and to the head of the lumber consortium. The sheriff then told me he'd been tasked with executing us if he'd found Gallat and he was infected.

While Sarenrae is certainly merciful, I feel like I've been made a fool of, and it nearly cost a friend his life.

I am intending to speak to her when I return, what could I do to punish her for this that would be fair?

Thanks in advance.

Hmm... tough one... big question... how are you NG?

Laurel likely acted out of fear; a potential zombie infestation is nothing to sneeze at. I don't think Sarenrae would expect her followers to punish someone for acting poorly out of fear. That sounds more like Gorum, Asmodeus, or Norgorber.

If it was me, I'd simply avoid dealing with Laurel until the whole matter was sorted out. There's really not much a paladin should do in this case; the herbalist can't be trusted with confidential information, so don't give her any more confidential information.

Yeah after reading up on the Dawnflower this is very true...

@Azaelas My DM house rules that Paladins can match the alignment of their Deity. So a Paladin of Cayden Cailean would be chaotic good for example. I think it makes alot of sense.

@ Necromancer Very well put. I have the long term goal of bringing a small church of Sarenrae to the region, or particularly Falcon's Hollow in the future, so perhaps this can help give me the impetus to not rely on her any more and to provide a better service myself for others.

I agree trust me. I have actually looked over and triple checked to make sure there wasn't any weird abilities that wouldn't work. So far I haven't seen any in the base Paladin.

I do the same thing. I'm just surprised to see another GM that does it.

I'm the DM in this campaign; the only change you need to make is to retweak the paladin codes to fit with the alignment and deity. NG favors benevolence and charity over honor and order, and CG favors liberty and opposes tyranny over same.

Also I exchanged the Axiomatic divine bond weapon quality with Anarchic (Chaotic) and Conductive (Neutral).

Made the same changes with Antipaladins.

Allows every faith (barring TN faiths) to have a divine champion outside of the cleric class.

OT, the town was recovering from an epidemic of Blackscour taint; the last thing they needed was a zombie plauge infestation. Plus, zombies are bad for buisiness (just ask Thuldrin Kreed the NE unofficial head of the town).

There is always the possibilty that Laurel (the proprietor of Roots and Remedies) was thinking about the welfare of the town. She keeps quiet and it could end badly for many people should the plauge present a serious threat.

The last thing Falcons hollow needs is a bunch of adventurers bringing zombie plauge into town!

She's not a bad person, but then again reporting an incident of zombie plauge to the relevant authorities isnt exactly an evil act.

Laural is just trying to make a living, turn a profit and look after herself and the town as best she can in the frontier town of Falcons Hollow.

Doesnt help that the people she reported it too were evil, and reacted appropriately.

Re turning a profit from providing a cure for blackscour taint; thats the reason she set up shop in Falcons Hollow in the first place. She's a buisinesswoman. Sne's neither Evil (infecting the town in the first place) nor Good (doing it out of the kindess of her heart without need for payment).

Or is she...

;)

I know what module you used... iron bloom mushrooms and what not... same with the everflame I think...

Personally I think this circumstance it is mostly the Paladin's fault.

And I figured it was mostly a Fluff based change... TN would be a melting pot of all classes if you ask me. Which means LN, CN, NG, & NE could work...

There is an empty church to Iomadae available to convert.

Apparently the clerics were attacked and partly devoured by a wild beast last night.

Tragic thing to happen.

The very night after the Cleric of Ragathiel left that little girl Jeva there for 'protection'.
