Thanks Paizo!

I was introduced Pathfinder on my last deployment back in 2009. A co-worker lent me his Core Rulebook and I perused it. Liked what I saw, and the two of us tried to get a group together to game the deployment away. It never happened – guess we were the only two gamers on the FOB.

I returned home in the summer of 2010 and got right back into my semi-weekly 3.5 homebrew campaign sessions. My best friend and I take turns DMing, though he does the lion's share of it.

I'm deployed again ( yay :-/ ), and finally climbed aboard the Pathfinder bandwagon. I’ve purchased the majority of the Core books and (as you can see above) subscribed to several of the product lines.

Every month there are packages from Paizo being stacked in my game room awaiting my return to be fondled – non-sexually, … mostly…

Yeah, I get the PDFs with my subscription, but it's just not the same as actually holding the book, is it?

Just this morning I ordered the Beginner Box and Minis for my three teenagers to get them started on Pathfinder (They’ve already shipped btw – unholy smokes that was fast!). They are pumped about 'having their own game' and, according to my (wonderful, patient, understanding) wife, have blocked off every Saturday afternoon to play - barring teen activities at their church.

I don't have to advocate the intellectual benefits of role-playing games to this audience, so suffice it to say that I am pleased with what Pathfinder will give to my teens. All parents say this, but my kids are pretty smart and creative as it is, Pathfinder is going to help them in so many ways they don’t even realize.

So, to sum up this gushing praise I want to say Thank You to all the folks at Paizo – past, present, and future.

Thank you for giving me hours of enjoyment while separated from my family for these nine months.

Thank you for publishing products with a high production value and the amazing attention to detail that you do.

Thank you for providing the rich and storied universe of Galorion to play in.

And finally,

Thank you for providing a constructive outlet for my teenagers and their creativity, which will only increase the more the play and benefit them for years to come.

I'll be home soon and have already made plans for Paizocon and PAX Prime next year (I live in South Hill). Not to mention the campaign I am planning to run for my kids.

See you in five months!

Hah! Someone made the topic I wanted to and did the groundwork for me. Now all I have to do is throw in my 2cents. Sweet.

The OP is correct, you guys do have a thanks coming. My intro to DnD was the first edition red box. People didn't think I and my friends were nerds back then, they thought we were devil worshippers. Yes, I actually had people accuse me of that once they learned what "unholy" game I was playing.

Suffice to say, times have changed, and Pathfinder is an excellent evolution for these new times. Third ed was a good start, my group and I got a lot of play time out of it. The twist Pahtfinder puts on 3rd ed though, I'm not sure why but it just seems to capture the spirit of the game a bit more. Truth be told, I haven't enjoyed DnD this much since I graduated from my red box up to the advanced hardbacks.

In fact those old hardbacks are still around, and once again I gotta say you guys have taken it up a notch here with your new books. The bindings seems solid(hopeing they last as long as my 1st eds), the glossy paper is good, and then, theres the artwork. What can I say, this stuff aint Erol Otus(or was that Sutherland), either way, good job, really Really good job on the art.

Meh. Good job on all of it.

Like the man above me said, Thanks guys.

Like my fellow service member OP, I to am a active duty soldier, but unfortunatly after my deployment I will not be returning to duty due to wounds sustained.

Myself and several others have started a RPG group in our WTU ( warrior transition unit ) and have used it to help in the social isolation and mental health issues that acompany with returning damaged from combat.

We tried a certain 4th ED of another company, and found it not to our liking, so after some research and dropping a substantial amount of money we jumped into Pathfinder with both feet.

The production values and concise rules are exactly what we have been looking for and the depth of detail of the rules is perfect for us military types that like it "by the book" :)

We will be starting a kingmaker AP, kinda loosely ran, with a slow advancement xp path, since we have alot of time to fill.

But from me and others of A co. WTB JBER Alaska, thanks Paizo and keep up the impressive work.

Oh, I could leave my thanks to Paizo as well. Thank you Paizo, for creating the rather awesome story and world of Golarion. I usually just seethe with envy or laugh at the poor work other people do when they pulish ready made campaign settings and worlds, but Golarion, like Eberron (and Planescape), is one of those that I just can't seem to hate, even with the more nasty stuff being put in it (Zepar and Nocticula, anyone?) that usually just make me hate a given thing. So yeah, a thousand thanks for making an interesting story world that I might never get tired of, and that will most likely serve as an inspiration for my own written works of fantasy and fiction some day, if I do get them done.

Also, now for something different. I would also like to thank you, with a manic grin on my face, for totally trashing 3.5e and getting it out of the market (then again, that was also WotC's fault) and gathering such a fanatic following of sycopanthic RP freaks that the rules have been, in many cases, skewered beyond repair for people like me. I'd also like to thank you for disregarding many of the people who have pointed out said flaws in the past and basically given up after being banned, or summarily turned into targets of mockery and parodies. I can still have fun playing the game just like I did with 3.5e, but I am never going to forgive the fact that this set of houserules that was published in an official book, has gained more approval from the fickle DMs I play with, than the homebrew materials I have dished out, that I worked for hours and days on end, only to be shelved by these DMs "because they are not official". So yeah, thanks for everything, in both good and bad.

PS. In retrospect, I am not sure if this post belongs in this thread.

Heh.

I'm sure ... doesn't.

;-)

No worries.

"Hey, do you play D&D?" was the best icebreaker in the world when I was growing up as a military brat. Nothing else to do when you're stuck on-base overseas! :D

UPDATE: Beginner Box arrived at my house today - word from the wife is that they've already broken it open and are reading the booklets very intently. From order to doorstep in about 36 hours - living so close to the Paizo offices comes in handy.

Lilith - I can imagine! I've put up a few flyers on the FOB here to try and get a group going, but no bites so far.

Of course, we are a little busy these days. I'm thinking that when the Afghan 'fighting season' ends, I'll have a better opportunity to get a group together.
