What if I'm allowed to wield large weapons (maximize damage)?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

ok i got my GM to alow a revised version of the titan mauler

Massive Weapons (Ex): At 3rd level, a titan mauler becomes skilled in the use of massive weapons looted from her titanic foes. At 3rd level, she can wield melee or thrown weapons sized for creatures one size category larger than her own size, with a -2 penalty on attack rolls. Such weapons are always considered two-handed weapons.

For every 3 levels beyond 3rd, a titan mauler may choose to increase the size of weapons she can effectively wield by one additional size category, with an additional -2 cumulative penalty to attack rolls. Alternatively, she may choose to reduce her attack roll penalty when using oversized weapons by 1. This choice must be made every 3 levels when the ability is gained and cannot be changed. This ability replaces trap sense.

but he put 1 more restriction i can only chose 1 weapon type each time i gain this abilety

i was wondering if it would be better to wield a huge bastard sword or a large greatsword? or maybe there is other options that do more damage?

Larger weapons sound great in theory, but they usually add very little to your average damage. Being able to reduce the penalty is good though. I presume you are also using Power Strike if you are going for high damage, so you don't need any more penalties to your to-hit.

The large greatsword is 3d6 or 10.5 average. The huge bastard sword will be 3d8 or 13.5 average. This is offset by the additional -2 attack penalty on the bastard sword. At that point, why not just go huge greatsword for the 4d6, average 14? Only slightly better, but both are going to be two-handed anyway. Remember, you cannot gain the size increase or penalty reduction more than five times (6,9,12,15,18). I cannot recommend going any higher than huge as you need to spend those other bumps towards removing that -4 penalty to-hit. Unless your accuracy is particularly good I would probably recommend spending 6 and 9 to reduce the large penalty, using 12 to increase the size to huge, and using 15 and 18 to get rid of that penalty. Greatsword all the way. I must say though that this build and an adamantine, lucerne hammer could make for an awesome armor-breaker. However, dragons and liches aren't known for their armor.

I would be remiss not to point out that this is an exceptionally good trade for Trap Sense even with the weapon choice limitation. Most melee characters drop Weapon Focus in something and never use a different weapons. Also, it is unlikely you will randomly find giant weapons. But, this is all just my two copper.

thanks for the info i was thinking something along that way

but a huge bastard sword is only large if i wield it 2 handed but at -4 indeed 3d8 is awsome tho the feat might give me more damage than the weapon itself

I was working off this sentence here. I will admit that this is a change from the base reading, but I figured it was part of your GM's modifications for the class ability.

right :-) yeah sorry :-)

hmm so only maybe the lucern hammer it has 1d12 on M size what would it be on large?

Large Lucern Hammer is 3d6.

Bestiary p315 has the entire damace dice increase list as part of the feat Improved Natural Attack. For the odd sizes though you still need to go to the Core Rulebook p145.

im guessing even if im able to wield a huge greatsword at no penalty it aint all that great lolz :-)
