So as the title suggests, when do spontaneous casters regain their spells per day allotment? Do they need a full nights rest? Does it just happen at 12:01am every day? Can I set what time my allotment refreshes? I tried to look up the answer but I couldn't find anything, so I assume that I just missed something. Also any text quotes either way would be helpful.

After 8 hour of rest, but still only 1/day.
It is in the magic chapter
Daily Readying of Spells: Each day, sorcerers and bards must focus their minds on the task of casting their spells. A sorcerer or bard needs 8 hours of rest (just like a wizard), after which she spends 15 minutes concentrating. (A bard must sing, recite, or play an instrument of some kind while concentrating.) During this period, the sorcerer or bard readies her mind to cast her daily allotment of spells. Without such a period to refresh herself, the character does not regain the spell slots she used up the day before.

Thats what I thought. I was just having trouble finding that and wanted to make sure.

But it was a good way to keep spell usage down. You couldn't go nova for 15 minutes and then repeat that every day without spending most of the day regaining spells.
The current 15 minutes adventuring day is a direct effect of that and computer games where you can rest just outside the aggro radius of the enemy.

I agree however I believe the earlier editions were too extreme. In the middle of a Dungeon even a medium level Cleric would lose 1/2 a Day's adventuring (or Wizard) because of the harshness. Then get a random encounter.. it just was not game friendly (forces the DM to sometimes make changes to his campaign, ect)
And a smart Dm can prevent Nova by scaring the PCs... we had that happen last week in our campaign (attacking a Dragon and the Dragon escaped.. then we get attacked by something completely different on the way back to town,ect)..
I totally agree that it seems like the newer players (not harking on anyone or anything) like to Nova more than the older players. Also no free casting of cantrips or low level spells made playing a low level Wizard VERY difficult (but really rewarding afterwards).
