Mystic Theurge, Caster Level and Feat Qualification

How does Mystic Theurge work as far as feat qualification?
To qualify for a small elemental as an 'Improved Familiar' you need to be arcane caster level 5.
A basic Mystic Theurge who got 3 Wizard & 3 Cleric... could they ever qualify for any of the more advanced Improved Familiars (the elemental for example) without gaining more Wizard levels?

Yes, because the mystic theurge increases your caster level. This seems pretty black and white to me. :)

he adds the level of mystic theurge to the level of whatever other arcane spellcasting class and divine spellcasting class the character has, then determines spells per day, spells known, and caster level accordingly.

OK... so basically.. at Cleric 3/Wizard 3/Mystic Theurge 2 she would qualify for a small elemental?

Yes, this character has an arcane caster level of 5.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

A Clr3/Wiz3/MT2 would qualify for things requiring:
Caster level 5
Arcane caster level 5
Divine caster level 5

She would not qualify for things requiring:
Wizard level 4
Cleric level 4
Caster level 6

I hope that's clear.

OK.. so this same character has 'magical knack'... she can get a small elemental at level 3/3 without waiting for the levels in MT?

Hero Lab doesn't seem to like it.

That looks like an issue with Hero Lab. I believe you should be able to qualify with that trait.
