I want to make sure I understand the function of this option.
It states "Choose one bardic performance; treat the bard as +1/2 level higher when determining the effects of that performance." So if I choose "inspire courage" it will progress as such if I choose it every level:
1st level 1.5
2nd level 3
3rd level 4.5
4th level 6 (which means it is a +2 at this point correct?)
5th level 7.5
6th level 9
7th level 10.5
8th level 12 (which means it is a +3 bonus)
Is this logic correct? and if so, that is bonkers...

Yeah you've got it right. We've got an aasimar aiming to be a paladin/bard (arcane duelist) in one of my two new RotR games who's taking that alternate bonus.
I've ruled that he can apply it to his bladethirst performance, even before he gets the performance itself (although it still doesn't do anything until he actually reaches 6th level). It really makes the ability worthwhile, and despite the multiclassing he can still get his bladethirst to its maximum level.
