Pathfinder PRD for Kindle

Product Discussion

I have put together .epub versions of the books present on the Pathfinder PRD site for my own personal use on my Kindle. After looking at the end product I decided I would like to share it with the community, as long as Paizo deems it acceptable. Is there anyone I can talk to and/or pass the files to for review prior to posting them?

You might consider contacting customer support at customer.service@paizo.com to make sure everything is ok - if anything would be amiss they could direct you to the right person.

The Exchange

If it's using stricly the info and such as presented in the PRD, you should be OK as long as you add the correct 'legal stuff'. If it includes any artwork (being for kindle I doubt this is the case...) then it's likely no go.

Someone else can give you a better answer, I'm sure. But I think that's the basics.

(I hope this is an OK thing. I'd love to get it for my kindle.)

You may want to drop a line to licensing@paizo.com. There are people that have created similar content (applications), also. Taking a look through the Community Use Policy would also be a good idea.

The only artwork I included were the handful of images located on the PRD.

I will get in touch with the licensing folks ASAP. I looked at the Community Use Policy, but a lot of it went over my head, so I need a more practiced eye to help me out!

Sorry this is a little off topic but I didn't think Kindle could read Epub files, has that changed?

If it is a standard Epub that you made will it work on non-kindle devices?

You are correct. The Kindle uses .mobi format. However, .epub is more widely supported, and conversion is simple and free via Calibre. If and when these documents get approved I will be posting them in .epub and .mobi formats.

If these get approved, I would love touse them on my Nook. My Nook is much lighter than the Core Rulebook ya know.

My kindle (and my body) is ready.

I am finalizing these documents and making sure they are legal and in line with Paizo's Community Use Policy and the OGL. Once this is done I will post again in this forum letting everyone know.

The documents I have compiled are: Core Rulebook, GameMastery Guide, Advanced Player's Guide, Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Combat, Bestiary, and Spellbook.

The books with spells only contain the descriptive spell lists; the actual full spell entries are compiled into the Spellbook. This book includes the 6 rare cantrips from Ultimate Magic.

The Bestiary is a compilation of volumes 1, 2, and 3 of the Pathfinder Bestiary, organized alphabetically. It includes the full appendices from all three books, including the lists of monsters by Type, Terrain, and CR.

This is all subject to change based on decisions of Paizo staff, particularly the Spellbook and Bestiary.

These documents are now available for download in two formats.

I have an Android, Samsung Galaxy Player (NOT a phone) that can wi-fi connect. I can also copy stuff from my laptop to it.

I am new to much of this technology, so which of the two formats should I download to my laptop then copy to the player?

thanks,

I do not have any knowledge of Android format compatibility. I would recommend the Epub files, as they are compatible with most devices other than the Kindle. If the Epubs do not work I recommend using a free and open source program called Calibre. It is an excellent tool for ebook management, and handles conversion very well.

Thank you so much for doing this.

You can install the Kindle for the Android, which should handle the Mobi files, or install any number of ebook readers from Android Market (Cool Reader being a decent and free one to start with) which will prefer the Epub files.

Kick ass!

Downloading now.

I'll provide feedback once I peruse them, if you want it.

Thank you !!!

I am an old retired main frame programmer who just picked up an Android "mini-tablet" to get into this new technology, see my daughter's Facebook page and the gazillion new pictures she posts of our granddaughter (3 weeks old). So all of this is new to me and I do appreciate the help.

Feedback is always welcome; I enjoy contributing in some small way to the wonderful community that Paizo has created here.

My next revision of these documents will focus on standardizing the headings and tables, and improving the flow of the table of contents.

I am aware of some small errors in the Monsters By lists in the Bestiary Compendium, so those corrections will be included in the next version.

Do you have a link for this? Cutting and pasting the link mentioned above into my browser doesn't get me anywhere.

I think this project is really cool - congrats and thanks for doing it.

I've only flipped through the core rules so far. There is a lot of 'margin' on the pages, but overall it is exceeding my expectations. Searching for specific words on my Nook takes a while, which is understandable, the core is a huge book/file - not a complaint, an observation.

The table of contents is spot on. All the links I've tried work great.

This is an awesome resource.

I thank you for all the work you've put into this. So much easier than carrying the Rulebook around.

I have added the Advanced Race Guide. For this book I decided to include the full spell entries. When I revise the Spellbook they will also be included in there.

The links are still the same for the folders.
