My party has defeated a nasty beast with a small hoard of treasure. One of the items is a Loadstone.
Due to some terrible Spellcraft rolls (three below 20), the group knows the stone is magic, but have no other ideas. They certainly don't know it is cursed (DC 30).
Does the curse take place the second someone carries it with them, or does it wait for someone to claim ownership over it?
It's cursed. I'd go with carried.
At the worst possible moment (it is a curse after all). I had it kick in on one character as they were crossing a swamp, 7 adventures later; failed a simple acrobatics check, fell in some mud; a simple use of the levitate wand should do it...until he rooted to the spot and began to sink like, well, a STONE! HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!
A 7th level unbreakable fighter nearly killed by a rock. It was awesome!
