New to Pathfinder and pathfinder society. Questions.

Pathfinder Society

So I bought all these pathfinder books so I could start playing it and the group I was intending to play with sorta unintentionally disbanded. Two of them moved out of state. The other has a baby on the way so he can't play anymore. So honestly I have every book but no one to play with. A guy at work mentioned this pathfinder society thing that a local gaming stores do. I had a few questions about it.

Is it noob friendly? I've never played pathfinder or dnd 3.5. The only thing I've played was old adnd 2nd ed. Thus I'm not completely sure how most of the mechanics work yet and I am very confused about combat. I read the core book and thought I understood it but the guy at my job described the combat mechanics differently.

How should I roll my ability scores when I make my char? I'm not sure which option to use. Is it usually up to whoever is GM or is there a specific way to roll my scores universally that most groups use?

Should I wait to roll until I get to the gaming store or should I make a character ahead of time? I have some characters in mind to make but I'm not sure what a GM would let me roll and be... specially some of the unique races in the advanced race handbook.

Grand Lodge 4/5

1. It depends on your group. A good GM will help explain the rules to you as you use them. The best way to learn the rules is to play them however. Let your group know that you are new and try to work with them through the game. There is less time in a scenario for explaining rules, so try to find time to ask questions outside the session. Quick questions can be asked in-game, but too much discussion may disrupt the game.

2. Society play uses the purchase method, with a 20 point allotment. You can find the chart in the CRB or the Guide to Organized Play. The Guide also contains most of the rules for character generation you may need.

3. Make your character ahead of time, and try to be early to the session so you can have the GM look over your character and point out errors. Society play has many restrictions on character options, so you will need to check the Additional Resources page to see what you are allowed to use from the books. Any questions you have after that should be posted here on the forums. Many of us are messageboard junkies who love answering questions. :)
