Infernal Wounds and Extraordinary Healing

Rules Questions

So, a question came up during my last session when my barbarian got hit by a bearded devil's weapon and started taking bleed damage according to the infernal wounds power. My barbarian has the renewed vigor rage power, and none of us were quite sure how the that would work with the needed caster check. Is it ONLY magical healing that would work? Because several of us thought that a once-per-day extraordinary ability should at least have a chance to work. What do other people think?

Different bleeds can require different types of healing/resolutions. Infernal wounds requires a heal check (DC 17) to stop the bleed or magical healing (which requires a successful caster check). RAW your barbarian power wouldn't do it.

Just so you have a second opinion: I agree with Skylancer4.

Fair enough. That's what we decided at the time, just to make it easy, but my DM and I were curious what the general consensus might be.

Yeah, it doesn't work by RAW. Sad, but true. I can't see any good reason not to houserule it though, the reason for EX tag isn't to screw the Barbarian (that's the once per day aspect of the power) but rather to clarify that it's not magical and can be used inside an AMF.

Just replace Casterlevel with Rage Level (I say rage level because there are ways of having a Rage Level different from Barbarian Level, such as certain Archetypes, or the 3.5 Chaos Rage feat on a multi-classed Barbarian.

EDIT: WHUPS, looks like I hit this thread through a search and ended up casting thread necromancy.

The different Bleeds in PF should all be stopped by a Heal check (various DC), or by anything that cures what's bleeding (hp or ability points).

Renewed Vigor should auto stop the Bleed, since it is not magical healing.

Infernal Wound is resistant to magic healing, as required by the caster's level check.

Since a plain Heal check will also stop it, any non-magical, non (Sp), or non (Su) should also stop it.

Glossary, Bleed: "Bleeding can be stopped by a DC 15 Heal check or through the application of any spell that cures hit point damage (even if the bleed is ability damage)."

Universal Monster Rules, Bleed (Ex): "This bleeding can be stopped by a successful DC 15 Heal skill check or through the application of any magical healing."

Bleed can be stopped by a heal check, or magical healing (which may or may not be limited to spells, depending on the source).

Renewed Vigor (Ex) is an Extraordinary ability. Extraordinary abilities are nonmagical.

Renewed Vigor is not magical healing, nor is it a heal check. Therefore it does not stop bleed damage.

The same is true with natural healing, Fast Healing (Ex), Regeneration (Ex), Troll Oil, or any other method of non-magical healing that isn't a heal check.
