I haven't been able to find the answer to this in the FAQ or on the Message boards.
I am makeing a halfling Cavalier.
When I buy a saddle and Bit and bridle, I don't see and difference in weight for a small, medium sized creature vs a large creature, like a horse. I do see differences in weight for armor.
Is this an oversite or should the weight of these items be reduced by one-half?
My poor little pony is having trouble carrying everything including my fat halfling's weight.
Thanks,
Sidney

It's common sense that a saddle for a smaller mount would weigh less, so in a home game you could ask your GM for a house rule. (Don't even mention the bit and bridle. It would be a one-pound distraction.) But if you're in something like a PFS game that uses the rules as written, then you're out of luck.
Shifting to advice mode... You probably already know this, but ponies can carry more than you'd expect from their Strength score: up to 100 pounds as a light load, and up to 200 pounds as a medium load. My own halfling went kind of overboard with spare sling bullets, so maybe you can lose some weight there? Good luck! :)

I noticed this with my paladin's light war horse... I wasn't sure he could even carry his OWN weight...
I was REMARKABLY happy to find THIS on page 170....
Quadrupeds can carry heavier loads than bipeds
can. Multiply the values corresponding to the creature’s
Strength score from Table 7–4 by the appropriate modifier,
as follows: Fine ×1/4, Diminutive ×1/2, Tiny ×3/4, Small
×1, Medium ×1-1/2, Large ×3, Huge ×6, Gargantuan ×12,
Colossal ×24.
Not sure what the 'size' of a pony is... but my light horse can carry a LOT more then it's 16 strength suggested!! :)

I actually just spent an hour today trimming my halfling cavalier's gear down so that with his weight, his armor and gear, and his wolf mount's barding, the wolf is 2 lbs under Light encumbrance and can get his full movement. That took a lot of doing, and requires a service animal (in my case, a donkey and cart) to haul a lot of gear. If we end up somewhere the donkey can't go, and I have to pack my own supplies, we have to slow down. :(
All that by way of saying, "I feel your pain."

Why not use an oversized mount? (Mount that is one size Category higher than normal)..
Per Pathfinder (and RAW) there are no rules saying that you cannot use a Light Warhorse(Large Size) (say its a Mountain Pony but has the stats as a Light Warhorse). Pathfinder is vague but usually you can use creatures that are one size category larger as a MOUNT... There are no rules saying that you cannot use 2 or even 3 sizes larger.. (Small creature using a LARGE Mount for example)
3.5 had a rule that you could not use fast dismount/mount.. but that was it..
If your Halfling Cavilier is going Heavy.. it makes sense to use a "Heavier Mount"... Its just Flair to say its a mountain Pony but if the DM refuses to call it a Mountain Pony then just say its a Light Warhorse...
Its RAW and RAI and Should be legal..

One of the advantages (the only advantage?) of being a small rider is that your medium size mount can go into places where large mounts can't, such as dungeons.
I have also noticed this problem with item weights for smaller-than-standard creatures. Indeed this is also an issue for regular PC equipment.
I have played a halfling rogue and simple equipment such as thieves' tools, crowbar, grappling hook, etc. all adds up, with no account for a small user.
