"Golarionizing" Way of the Wicked

Liberty's Edge

Hi everybody!

So, if you were to Golarionize Way of the Wicked, where would you put it? Could it even be done without causing far too many inconsistencies in either the AP plot or the setting canon?

These are the things that keep me up at night.

I'm thinking it probably can't be done.

Liberty's Edge

Just off the cuff, I would say that setting the campaign in Cheliax in the year 4605 AR has a ton of possibilities.

- Mithra becomes Aroden
- King Markadian becomes King Gaspodar

Since the campaign still has two books to publish, I don't know how it ends yet, but it ending with your campaign resolving who killed Aroden would be, I think, suitably epic.

Locations have to get transitioned and you might have more overland travel and less sea travel, but I think it's doable.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

I've actually thought quite a bit about this and I have consciously tried to make "Way of the Wicked" easy to integrate into Golarion. Of course, you can always modify this to suit your own tastes (if that even needs to be said).

Mitra is easily swapped with Iomedae and the Knights of the Alerion could easily be branch of the Knights of the Ozem.

Mitra could also be treated a local deity or perhaps the Church of Mitra actually worships Iomedae, Sarenrae and Abadar in a sort of weird local way.

Talingarde is an island due west of Magnimar, beyond Hermea, but just off the big map.

Perhaps the Talireans are a remnant people from Azlant.

The Yutak are obviously the Erutaki (both being Inuit analogs).

And...

Spoiler:

The army that comes from the mainland in Book Six is actually coming from Cheliax.

I believe that's all you need to do to "Golarionize" your "Way of the Wicked" campaign.

Of course, you can make more substantive changes by actually putting it on the mainland. There was suggestion on this board to run the campaign in Cheliax in the past to show how the House of Thrune actually took over Cheliax. I think that's a smashing idea.

Anyway, hope this helps,

I am running mine right after our Kingmaker game concludes... three guesses which kingdom the evil PCs are destroying :)

So mine would be set in the Stolen Lands with Sarenrae as the goddess of Light. Not sure how that will mesh up well with the AP out of the box, since I only have the 1st book at present, but it seemed suitably twisted to make them destroy their own kingdom, muahahaa..

What would be even more twisted would be if they were the descendants of the Kingmaker PCs! We built it, and we'll destroy it. Mwuahahaha!

That is awesome.

3rd children never inherit & are often envious/ jealous/ resentful in such tales ... the descendants of same are going to be ... worse. ^__^

Sorta like the Sackville Bagginses...only less hobbity and more evil dark lordy :-)

These are great ideas - thanks, everyone!

I've decided to place the campaign in the Lawful Good kingdom of Mendev. The backdrop of Iomedae led crusades was too good to pass-up.

Instead of Bugbears invading through the Watch Wall, the PCs will be assisting Demons from the Worldwound through the defensive line of wardstones.

Mendev's proximity to the north still allows for that "frozen" flavor (e.g. Yutak/Erutaki).
