I've always been a sucker for a good ghost story. Here's a link to a yahoo.com article about the supposedly haunted hotel owned by the family of Senator Rob Portman. I thought it was interesting.
I'm sure there are other good stories out there.

I heard my ghost this morning. The bakery I work at is an old converted farmhouse. I get there at about 255am every morning. I am usually the only person in the whole complex at that hour
Not every day, but occasionally, I will hear footsteps above me. Now, I am rational enough to admit it could be pipes or some other thing, but it never occurs when the bakery is open, or when others are around. Above me is offices for the bar we share the farmhouse complex with, and I've checked and there are no lights or activity when these footsteps occur. It makes my mornings a little more interesting.

When I was younger, we lived on property where a guy killed his wife and her lover before killing himself. We didn't know it until after we had our own encounter with the ghosts. To this day, my brother and my former step-dad won't talk about it.
It was in Missouri, just after the 4th of July and I was getting ready for my little league game when the temperature dropped 50 degrees. I looked up and saw three very tall shadowy figures walk by my room. Next thing I know, my brother came running in from the chicken coop screaming and crying. My sterp-dad came in the house and he was very pale and refused to go see what was in the coop that freaked my brother out. Very unusual because step-dad ALWAYS checked stuff like that out.
Turned out the lot my step-dad bought had once been much larger. Where our chicken coop stood, was once the back side of the barn and where the murder suicide occured.
My brother and I moved into the living room because my brother had nightmares and it wasn't until mid-August that the room warmed up.

I'm not sure I believe in ghosts, but I will grant there are many things I can't explain. I've never had a ghostly encounter, and don't know anyone who has. I do love good ghost stories, though, especially the ones that you just hear talked about by people who believe they've seen one, rather than the "Ghost Hunter" stuff you see on TV.

I want to b+%*# slap most of the people on those shows. On GH at least I have seen them go, nope nothing seems to be here, or any sort of debunking going on.

I tend to be a fan of the 'residual' theory. I think places can soak up events, like a recording. I have never felt threatened by the footsteps I hear, and it is usually the same thing repeated. Rather than some spirit tromping on the floorboards, maybe it is the house itself replaying a particular moment that occured in the past.

I don't really believe in ghosts, but one of the stories I was raised on growing up in the Chicagoland area was Resurrection Mary. Even just the slightest possibility that there was some truth to the tale (those iron bars!) made waking up to a noise in the dead of night as a kid just creepy as hell.
