Ranger Danger!

Advice

I was wondering if I would be bending the rules if I used the Magic Fang spell to enchant my unarmed strikes in a fight against a werewolf? My ranger has the feats Improved Unarmed Strike and Improved Grapple, so he should be able to choose for the damage to be lethal. I'm just trying to think up a back-up plan when we are attacked by opponent requiring a magic weapon to hit ( and we will be ), and I have no enchanted blade at the ready. Thanks in advance!

1) Magic Fang explicitly states that it can be cast on your fist or the like.
2) What do you mean with 'requiring a magic weapon to hit'? Barring incorporeal foes, there are no monsters you need a magic weapon to hit.

Specifically against a werewolf, magic fang wouldn't make a difference. You can hit them with any weapon, but they have damage reduction. The damage reduction of a werewolf can only be avoided with a silver weapon, or a +3 weapon (not availiable through Greater Magic Fang).

Actually, at 12th level greater magic fang is equal to a +3 weapon, which will get past the dr/silver of the werewolf.

Just cast Versatile Weapon on your unarmed strike.
It's even a Ranger spell.

*sigh* Do people actually read the rules anymore these days?

Well, I'll be a monkeys uncle...teach me to post before my morning coffee. My apologies Midnight Angel. I read the first sentence of the spell description and then got distracted by something shiny...

Versatile Weapon is your answer.

Old habits die hard, concerning the "need a magic weapon" statement. I thought that magic bonuses bypassed damage reduction. As far as reading the rules goes, I find a rule I have had wrong for months everytime we play. Thanks for taking the time to help.

Grand Lodge

Well, they do, but the bonuses from the magic weapon spell do not.
