A Double-Barrel Pistol and a Longsword / Bastard Sword?

Rules Questions

I am not sure if this was covered in the books at all or not, but I am looking to make a Gunslinger (with maybe a level or two in Fighter or something) for our next Campaign. hoping to have some medium ranged capabilities (but I also don't want to make him a complete weakling up front, either).

My question for this is if I have a Double-Barreled Pistol and a Long Sword (or Bastard Sword, haven't decided completely yet), would I technically be considered as Two-Weapon Fighting for the purposes of adding bonuses/penalties to my attack rolls, or not?

I wouldn't think so, since I am not using both of them as melee weapons, one as a ranged weapon (which can be fired at melee range, as far as I know), and one as a melee weapon in itself, both of them equating to one-handed weapons, and that Two Weapon Fighting involves two melee weapons, not a mix and match.

Are there rules regarding a character who has both a one-handed ranged and melee weapon for penalties and such? Are the same rules for Two Weapon Fighting applied for a character with this type of set-up? Some clarification would be appreciated.

Silver Crusade

You are using two weapons, thus, you can TWF. It doesn't matter whether one weapon is a ranged or a melee one, you may very well wield two daggers and throw them as your last attack.
Note that you must be able to reload your weapon before attacking again (I suggest a Glove of Storing for your melee weapon so you can shoot and reload anytime).
A pistol is a one-handed weapon, so the penalty with the TWF feat would be -4/-4. Think about Opening Volley and Sword And Pistol as useful feats.

If you are human, check the Buccaneer archetype from ARG (also available on d20pfsrd).

Ah; I didn't really know that it would count as TWF, but they are weapons, and there are two of them, and you fight with them, so by literal definition, it counts.

Thanks for the tips, I'll look into them when we decide to make our next set of characters.

Also remember that if you don't get an extra attack there isn't a penatly for the round.
