It's just been really hectic at work the past few days. We were doing the final tests before submission so kindof insane... 3am days are a biznitch and a half
DM Immortal
Boo on sickness and work related crappiness! Feel better and less work wishes to everyone! :-)
DM Immortal
Here is something that might liven everyone...up. Level up as soon as this dinner is over!
Seijiro
sorry not posting much now that I'm home from my trip - I slept most of today away recovering from yesterday's 11 hour drive. I was exhausted, since I did most of the driving myself. Only got a friend to drive a couple of hours of it. I think she was nervous driving my car.
Horatio Flynn
I’ve been here, but there hasn’t been much going on for me to do so I haven’t been posting much lately.
But I do check the boards fairly frequently, though.
Horatio Flynn
While it is true I could have gone back after hearing Variel's request - Horatio really didn't want to be in the room at the point for some personal issues that were bothering him more and more during the meal until he decided to leave.
Also, he didn't have much to say. The decision was Dhaavan's, not his. He did what he could to aid Dhaavan; and his check was successful.
As for the questions/particulars, I believe that's up to Dhaavan on how he wants to do the wedding, and also the GM on the particulars on how that will occur.
To be fair, that's all "in game" reasons/motivations.
Out of game I've had a lot of requests for me to cut down on my posting length and frequency. So I've been working very hard to oblige.
For example, I had a lot of text written about what Horatio is thinking, and why he is thinking that, and what is going on in his head - and so on.
But since no one would know any of that "in game"; and since I tend to write a lot anyway, one of my strategies was to decide to cut all that from the boards.
If someone wants to know what's up in my head, they can ask me on the social Thread, which should help keep things from getting bogged down on the main board (I will answer them, no worries about THAT :)
Please know, I'd enjoy writing more; but I'm aware that many of my posts can be a problem for people. Since I don't want people to get annoyed with my posts, I've done what I could to cut them back.
This may change later on, but right now it's an experiment I'm trying to see if it helps things. I'm hoping it does :)
Meanwhile, I do keep checking the boards several times a day. When I think Horatio would do/say something, I'll toss it up!
DM Immortal
I'm not sure where you got the idea that your frequency was an issue. I have mentioned that length was but I actually said to cut down length and increase frequency. I hope that clears things up.

Who is to say we are done with the Rock? There might be a series of assassin attacks from unknown sources attempting to thwart the wedding. Lady Smythee might have other powerful suitors that will try to remove any claim to her hand. Watch out Dhaavan...we could spend the next three weeks in combat trying to save Dhaavan only to realize he failed his grapple CMD against lady Smythee on purpose.
Horatio Flynn
Question 2 - What is the formal "size" of the population of the Rock via "Settlements"?
I am assuming it is either a Hamlet (20-60 population) or a Village (61-200) population. What is the straight word on size, though?

I have a feeling we won't be done with the rock for a while, considering the magical items we got. However, I'm not sure what that has to do with the dinner... :)
Also, we need to figure out something relatively soon.
If we presume a month is 30 days standard, that means we've already used up roughly 14 days of supplies to get here. The crew will likely need action, and supplies, in less than two weeks.
Horatio Flynn
Question 3 - What is the mechanism used to enlarge the population of "the Rock"?
Dhaavan asked about it "in game" but it wasn't really answered well by the lady in game. The thing is; if we want this place to be a village or small town or whatever, what is the way we do it? How do we improve things if we are setting up shop here?
Do we need to bring in more recruits; do we need to bring in supplies via extra plunder points? Or (more specifically) is there a system in play/written out for this we could look over to plan out?
Okay, it's 5:40 AM - and I'm running late for work again (sorry, this week I've been working 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, so work has been a bit more difficult than it might be - we have a temp boss and he's giving me lots of hours).
Anyway, got to go. I look forward to seeing the answers when I get home :)
peace!

Thanks for the well wishes for the kid. Nothing too bad just a cold for our 3 year old but made for a long night when I was trying to help get our 2 month old to sleep as well.
DM Immortal
I know how that is. My 1 month old is getting to be a bit fussy at night as well. That and trying to keep up with a two year old and a four year old has been nuts.

I would think you have it worse as they are all boys and I have girls. Not as rambunctious I would hope.
DM Immortal
Mine are definitely rambunctious lol. They're hilarious though also. My two year old today decided that it would be a good idea to take his pull ups off and shake his butt running around the house going "Bum Bum! Bum Bum!" lol The video is great.
DM Immortal
Though it still doesn't beat when he put on his cape and took off all his clothes so he could run around the house stark naked yelling his catchphrase "POWER!" lol

Wow I do have it easy. The worst I have is hen my three year old starts dancing and sticks her butt in the air singing 'shake your booty, shake your booty'. At least she keeps her clothes on. We haven't run into that stage yet and hopefully won't now that she is three.
Rain Taneththir
Dhaavan & Immortal: If Immortal is fine with allowing the +1 circumstance/experience with Rain's emotions bonus so Dhaavan can make the Sense Motive check, then I am fine with it. I wasn't sure who you were asking/referring to in the ooc on the board.
Rain Taneththir
I'll be out of town tomorrow for my nephew's birthday party. I won't be able to post again until my Sunday (your Saturday).
Enjoy your respective weekends.
Horatio Flynn
GM: You said the town is a "Hamlet"? Okay, that's something we can work with. Good times, then :)
More on character updates to come, when I have figured out what I want to do.

Expedited plans
I’m tossing up what Horatio would be doing and looking for in the next hour or so. I’m tossing up the “sum-up” part so there is less on-board clutter. Now, the island isn’t that big, only a few square miles, I think. That said, it shouldn’t be too hard to find things out, I hope.
1. Horatio would like to tour more than just the tower, specifically, he wants to examine the island as a whole. It is not a large island but he’s looking for strong points, weak points, and potential places to expand (possibly a map of the island, if the GM has one).
2. Horatio is also interested in the island’s industry. Specifically: what does it have in terms of self-sufficiency?
What he’s hoping for is:
Blacksmith
Granary
Farms
Docks
Warehouse/Keep/Storage area for bulk goods
Dry dock – or at least an area to fix/repair/create fishing boats (not ships, I’m not that ambitious, but something like boats to row into the bay to fish. Possibly a small sailboat about twenty feet long for the same purpose)
Does the island have its own ship, if so – what class/size?
Is there a shrine or small area dedicated to a specific god or goddess?
And the scholar/doctor in him wants to know if it has (though he doubts it) a lab for creating alchemical things and a place for treating the sick/wounded
If we have an actual year, and this place is actually going to be a “base”, he’d like to consider how to expand this place better. What can be done to make it larger and more secure? These thoughts are more long term, but it’s something he’d suggest to the others when they had a chance to consider them.
Does anyone else have any thoughts?
Amen-set Neitaker
After conferring with Jack, Amen-set is coming to the island.
She chose 10 men by random drawing (to keep it fair) to remain as the ship’s deck watch. She wants at least three men on watch at all times; and rotate watch every four hours so the lookout is fresh and eager.
She told the deck watch they would be able to come to shore in about 24 hours, so they can all stretch their legs in turn.
She left the gnome Conchobar in charge in her absence.
She asked the gnome to use “Prestidigitation” on her and the men who come to land so everyone looks dapper for the wedding and to present themselves to the nobility.
She is dressing herself up, too.
She should arrive on the island at roughly “3:00 PM” with the crew (I believe that in-game it’s 1:45 PM; so that is some time to get things organized and social RP).
That said, Horatio’s hoping to hear more from the citizens/GM on the island and is also free for any RP with anyone who wants to.
DM Immortal
Excellent RP going everyone! Remember to level up to 6th and send me your updated sheets when you get a chance.
As an aside, I have been involved in a PVP arena for a while now and we are opening up a new recruitment thread in case anyone is interested. I have several DM's that are helping in collaboration and since it is entirely combat based won't take up much time but it's a nice way to sharpen combat skills as well as work on any fun and overly optimized builds you have ever wanted to try out. Let me repeat though that this is a distant second in precedence to this game and you should not think in any way that the fact that I am doing this means anything as far as my interest in this game. I am totally dedicated to finishing this campaign. If you are interested though here it is.
Horatio Flynn
Flynn, Rain can have that talk with you once she is finished speaking with Variel. Alright?
Sounds good; in fact, we can do that as ret-con, if you want and just move the plot forward in the meantime as the GM is eager to get moving, now :)
Either way, I'll you in the social thread whenever you're up for it.
Rain Taneththir
I do not believe retcon is necessary if we are posting on the social rp page. Irrespective of whether the action is moving forward on the main game board or not. I just want to finish the conversation with Variel as Rain would have wanted to sort that out first.
Rain's HP: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Horatio Flynn

Okay. Whenever you're ready, then.
Meantime - our HP? Fracking SWEET!
Seijiro
Thanks for the offer, Imm, but PVP is not my thing, so I'll pass on that one.
Seijiro
So we're not developing the Rock via Kingmaker type rules, which is fine with me... more work than I'd want to do anyway
... but can we maybe carve out a little personal space? You said there was a barracks type area - can we maybe claim bunks while we are moored here, or are we expected to return to the ship each night? Just curious.
DM Immortal
NP Seijiro, I didn't figure it would be. I kind of figured Variel and maybe Dhaavan would be the only ones really interested. I like it just because I have fun with optimization.
You guys can definitely carve out personal space and Lady Agasta will do what she can to make you all as comfortable as possible. With a little bit of coin and some knowledge engineering checks you all might be able to even add additions to the keep. I'm not sure how that would work as I'm really not that familiar with the downtime rules from Ultimate Campaign but I am open to you all adding things as I see this being your home away from home for quite some time.

I’d love to play the PvP game; but I’m afraid if I take on one more game at this time it would compromise my ability to participate in this game properly.
It’s a bit disappointing about not using the Kingmaker game rules after all. Personally, I found the rules to be rather simplistic and easy, even with the GM’s insistence of the use of a few minor house rules, but in any case…But in any case, it seems I’ll need to do a bit of research in this “Ultimate Campaign” setting. I’m sure it won’t be any more complex than Kingmaker, though.
Seijiro
So I'm debating between taking more rogue levels or spinning off to Deep Sea Pirate... any comments or ideas about which way I should jump here? Just can't decide... rogue would give me a new talent now and +1d6 sneak attack next levl... DSP would give me +1d6 sneak attack now and a pirate trick next level.
Seijiro
Rain - were you planning on taking either of the pirate prestige classes? If so, I will stay with rogue as I don't want to rain on your parade.
DM Immortal
the great thing is it is all combat so takes up almost no time each day. if you look in the D20pfsrd under gamemastering they have the downtime rules in their from ultimate campaign.
Seijiro
Sorry - I mean RAIN on her parade - edited that post
And I guess it doesn't matter which class I choose - they both have d8 for hp's so here goes nothing...
1d8 ⇒ 8

Wow, you and your guys hp rolls are leaving Variel in the dust. Normally it evens out but at this point Variel is behind almost 10-15 hp on some of you guys by taking the average. Not complaining at all since I am glad you guys have the extra hp. the more hp the better for the party as a whole. Keep up the high rolls all of you.
As for level 6...
Feats: 0
BAB +1
saves: +1 all
5 skills: 3 diplomacy, 2 intimidate
HP: 4+1+1
+1 cantrip and second level spell: open/close and web
Spells in spellbook: fog cloud and pyrotechnics
Magus arcana: Disruptive (bring on those spellcasters with step up, hopefully it works out as well in game as it does in my head)
+1 arcane pool
DM Immortal
Holy crap what is up with you all's hp rolls lol. That is four 8's in a row! :-)
Seijiro
Something had to turn out right for someone - I was just involved in a tpk, where the dm kept critting pc's, as you well know - so a few good pc rolls had to turn up somewhere for the universe to achieve balance, lol...
DM Immortal
Yeah, I'm pretty sure he intended a TPK from the beginning so that he could move on to the other game he wanted to run.
Seijiro
Actually I hadn't even considered that... I'm so gullible, lol... but you're probably right. We were so outclassed in that last encounter, even if we were fully rested, I doubt we could have won it. I am curious how the ap was actually written, if he modified it, or we just shouldn't have tried to take on the Kardaswan in the first place.
DM Immortal
We could have killed him. He wanted a TPK though. That's why he was so quick with his "options" lol.
Variel Nightstorm
|
??? What AP was the TPK in?
Seijiro
Legacy of Fire, still in the first book.
