Rickety will only trade for ship modifications. The gp limit does include raw materials as well. Like I said it is a really small village and you won't be able to get everything you want. You will be better off going to Bloodcove or Port Peril to really stock up.
Dhaavan
we have the Sheath 5000, Ring2500, Shackles3280, and Bracers of Archery5000, so we have a total of 15780 in magic items. we only need 1200, so if we keep the Ring of Swimming we could get another Compartment and only loose 140 gp in the trade, giving him 13280 (65140) for the services rendered. or try to haggle and get another mod, maybe pay some cash to split the difference?
want a third compartment?
edit cause ninj'd by the eternal master of the universe
and thanks Variel! I'll need to custom build myself a headband with a circlet of persuasion added to it, I think...teehee, so much cha!
Variel Nightstorm

Ok then go with 4 smuggling compartments and we throw in items to make up the difference in value and keep the ring. Will update the spreadsheet to in or pirate the changes.
We purchased 1000gp in supplies plus the 460 that Flynn suggests, plus the 365 he spent equals 1825. Jiro wants MW rapier for 320. That leaves 355 in goods available beyond the items the merchant specifically mentions he has.
Variel has no additional purchases for himself.
Whatever is not purchased by us individually I think we should use to purchase supplies for repairs/figurehead/etc.
DM Immortal
Also remember guys that you aren't getting 100% value for the items. You still only get 50% like normal for selling them. You can bump it up to 75% with good diplomacy and behaviors over the next few days but he's not giving you retail value for the magic items.
Variel Nightstorm
|
Correct everything has been at half value so far but since you mention upping it with a diplomacy check...anyone see Dhaavan anywhere??? Paging first mate Dhaavan to the dry dock..

Sorry, Cap'n. be right there. Got a little drunk at while i was tellin my story. i think it helped some but i'm payin for it in hangover...
Now that we got the upgrades we want and prices, I know exactly what I'm negotiating for.
GM: we got the Sheath, Shackles, and Bracers totalling 13,280. Half value is 6,640
Squibbing: 2000gp, Sail upgrades: 25% = 2500, Rudder = 500. Total = 5000
So with a decent check I'm aiming to get 4 smuggling compartments bringing the total to 7000 worth of work.
Variel Nightstorm
|
Yep and I figure this would all happen before our night of celebration as Rickety needs to know what we want and how we are paying for it before he does the work.
If Dhaavan gets him to go to 75% value of items then the extra 3500 wuuld cover the cost of increased crew space and storage space. Go for it Dhaavan as I don't want to redo the math or spreadsheet anymore. Although if you do get him to go for 75% then we switch out the coins and gems for a masterwork handaxe and don't worry about the balance.
Dhaavan
CHecked it out. Now, what's more important, mor crew or cargo, cause we need the full 75% for all the upgrades i listed. but if we don't get that, then which one do we drop, Crew space, or Cargo-space
Crew converts cargo room into crew quarters, decreasing the available cargo-space, but cargo jsut gives us more room for stuff.
So what is our priority?
Variel Nightstorm
|
Cargo I would think as its going to take a while to recruit crew as we only got 5 more sailors here. Oh and possibly a crazy gnome as well once he chimes in at the commons.
Variel Nightstorm
|
Loot list updated with new format and everything consolidated. Witt he extra 10 percent we can get 1400 more to spend. Add another 100 from the coffers and we get the extra cargo room upgrade.

I would like to cast "Detect Magic" on the pistol - and determine what (if anything) may be connected to the pistol other then the +1 modifier.
I would also like to appraise the pistol and gauge its relative value if I can buy it.
Spellcraft via Identify Roll
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Appraise check to gauge its relative value -
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Edit: Nuts on the knowledge on what the pistol can do. But hopefully the Appraise check is handy enough.
DM Immortal
You would guess it's value somewhere in the neighborhood of 3300 gp
Horatio Flynn
I examine the pistol, pondering it.
A fair weapon, aye - and me without the coin. Still; the day is young - I may yet achieve that value before leaving this place.
I politely put the pistol back, although I ponder the value of my own gear; reflecting briefly that such a price seems quite fair, considering the value of my own firearms.
Horatio Flynn
I will happily thank Dhaavan - but I do hint more at my interest in the other item you are currently crafting me ;)
Hey - why don't you hustle over the new companion and introduce yourself?
Barzazal
Realized I didn't give a physical description yet, haha.
I got the inspiration for this guy from the Keith Flint (The Prodigy's Lead Man). Barzazal has spikey stark red hair and is covered in jagged scars that look like they were made by all manner of tooth, claw, stone, and blade. Powerfully built, he carries Terbutje lined with sawblade like sharks teeth. Reserved at first, he soon opens up to those that he deems worthy of his friendship.
Horatio Flynn
Good times! I like the look, by the way.
Have you considered making your vest from Sharkskin? It's pretty handy stuff, and seems to fit your character concept - Link.
Glad to see you on board, and eager to see your next posts.
Seijiro
It's so quiet tonight... is everyone out seeing 'The Hobbit' or something? I guess I'm just bored and looking for some rp fun. I'm watching TV but it's not very engrossing, so trying to fill the gaps here.
Variel Nightstorm
|
Still here but not much going on.
I did make this though for people. Hope it helps so people know what is going on with the ship...
Horatio Flynn
I'm down with RP, too.
Unlike the other muggles on this thread, I had camped out before the theater opened just so I could be the first in line to buy the ticket and be the first person to walk in the theater...
Yes - it was worth it!
If you're down with it - we can do some RP - you should make an avatar for your monkey, too.
By the way - I totally want a monkey now, also.
Seijiro
the Dread Lady stats look good, Variel... nice work.
Was it really good? I heard some of the FX left something to be desired, but I'm still really looking forward to seeing it. I think we will go see Life of Pi tomorrow night and let the Hobbit wait a week so we don't have to wait on line so long. I've been there/done that with the lines and camping out for movies. I'm older now and kind of outgrown that phase in my life I guess. I don't like sitting on the ground anymore and I don't want to schlepp a camp chair around with me either. Sucks getting old yanno?
and yes, I think I'll go look to see if there is an avatar I can use for Tomo, the monkey. Thanks for the idea!
Horatio Flynn
Still here but not much going on.
I did make this though for people. Hope it helps so far with the ship...
Cool! That's really good stuff on the chart :)
Seijiro
woohoo! I found a monkey avatar and made a post for Tomo... sadly the name was taken so I had to elaborate a bit. Anyway, now I have to actually make a profile for him, with stats and all... which means I need to look up monkey in the OGC since I have no bestiary.

Now, if anyone asks - we can honestly say: "Beware the evil monkey!"
Seijiro
Oh, and Seijiro was still down 9 hp after the last fight...
Was it 2 days of rest that we got on the way here? I need to know how many hp I got in normal healing over time. I know it's 3 per day for a 3rd lvl character, so with two days of healing, that's 6 hps back, but if it's been 3 days, S. would be fully healed.
Seijiro
Thanks for the link to monkey stats, Flynn! :)
And Tomo is Japanese for 'friend', and he's not evil! He's just a little scamp. Well, maybe a little evil, as I'm sure he will inherit Seijiro's love of sparklies, without his scruples... we'll have to wait and see lol ;)
Horatio Flynn
GM – quick questions:
First, Seijiro bought a monkey and now I want a monkey, too, because they are awesome.
But then I thought – “Monkey Madness” is an essential part of any pirate crew – nay – any RPG ever! Also, it is a verifiable mathematical fact that if you have the fun of one monkey – two monkeys are TWICE the fun – and the equation goes up from there.
So first – how many monkeys can we reasonably expect to buy on this island?
Next: The Handle Animal Skill allows you to train an animal with a “Trick” – which includes “Work” – which is defined as “doing work that can include pushing or pulling a medium or heavy load”.
Manning the bilges, scrubbing decks, and running up items to crew members all fall under that purview.
Therefore: can we hire/employ a crew of monkey sailors to assist us in sailing the ship?
Now before anyone pooh-poohs that idea (FYI - as an aside, that is a never-ending renewable missal attack from monkeys, by the way: namely – pooh-pooh), just remember: although they may not do much, they wouldn’t need much in the way of loot. After all, we could pay them in bananas! Also, if we gave them outfits – how cute is that?
So how many monkeys can we buy on this island and how many can we train for our legion of monkey pirates?
Also, what is the range increment for monkey pooh attacks?
And of course, if we train one of the monkeys to smoke, does smoking give him any specific advantage over the other monkeys – other then just looking cooler than the other monkeys?
Okay – that is all for now. But all kidding aside – having a monkey crew would be awesome!
Oh, and if we did and they attacked, consider the following:
Our Monkey Pirate Crew Attacks - Click here for link to potential damage!
Seijiro
lol, there is a spell that lets you summon a swarm of monkeys... it rawks. Maybe Dhaavan can learn that sometime.
Seijiro
Actually I think a whole crew of monkeys is a bad idea. I chose a monkey because Dhaavan already has a bird and I wanted something different. I could have picked a parrot and had a cool talking familiar like Jack, but a monkey was unique. Please don't turn it into a joke.
Horatio Flynn
You know, I hadn't planned on turning it into a joke. I was just joking around because there was nothing going on and I was just trying to keep things upbeat by joking around a little, you know?
Besides, somehow doubt that we'll have a monkey legion - which sucks, because a monkey legion sounds pretty awesome to me, even if it seems a little silly :)
Seijiro
k, thanks...
Horatio Flynn
Yeah - no worries. Still missing the monkey legion idea; especially after recalling the recent Planet of the Apes movies.
As an ironic situation - there's a late night Family Guy on right now when the Evil Monkey is now Chris's friend... what are the odds?
Anyhow - it looks like someone posted on the campaign thread; so I'm going to go check it out!
Seijiro
watching adult swim? I just finished up watching the church of the Fonz episode... if you're watching adult swim, I guess the evil monkey episode is up next for me, I'm assuming we are in different time zones. Unless of course you're watching on a different channel.
Horatio Flynn
Nah, I was watching TBS; but yeah - I'm an east coast boy myself. Very likely a different time zone.
As of now I think I'm going to have to crash - I need to be at work at 8:00 AM tomorrow - which sucks as I didn't sleep much LAST night - via my decision to be camped outside a closed movie theater (totally worth it).
Guess I'll see you tomorrow, and have a great night!
Seijiro
ni ni - sleep well.
Dhaavan
Well, looks like Variel did the calculations regarding what upgrades we can get, so awesome!
Imimrtl? how much crew can we fit on board?
can't wait to hear from Barzazal and introduce him to Dhaavan!
DM Immortal
As far as number of crew on board...I honestly have no idea. If anyone knows or wants to research to see if that is listed anywhere please let me know.
Variel Nightstorm
|
The ship holds 120 passengers. Each crew also counts as one passenger. If I am not mistaken, we had 21 on the ship including ourselves. Then Rain and Sko left dropping us to 19. Barzazal makes 20 and Variel with help recruited 5 more. Flynn is also looking for an assistant to give us a total of 26. That works out well if we get attacked or are attacking a ship as we need 20 crew to avoid penalties. That allows both ballista to have three manning them until we get into close quarters. Then that frees up us 6 for boarding or repelling attacks...
You think Immortal planned it that way? ;p
Horatio Flynn
Yes definitely...that was definitely planned. lol ;-)
Hey GM:
I sent you a Private Message yesterday.
Meantime, while we are waiting for the ship to be worked on is there any way that we can do a side quest at this time?
I'm pretty much down for anything at this point; just let me know. I just want to play at this point, so if there is anything you can do, let me know and I'll do it happily and with enthusiasm.
Anyhow, I got nothing to do, so if we can do something like that, just let me know.
Okay, that's pretty much it.
Horatio Flynn
Ahoy GM!
A few quick questions via clarification:
1. I've asked you questions in the past via knowledge checks, but I'm not sure if you answered me, or didn't. I know it's odd, but when I read your stuff I was like "All that's great - how about an answer to my questions". Then I read it again and was like "Um - maybe that was the answer".
But I don't know - I kind of expected you to say:
Knowledge Check Answer X: - You know the following...
Anyhow, I was just a bit confused, and wanted to be on the same page as you. If you could clarify that, it would really help me in the future, as I don't want to pester you (well, not too much, that is :)
2. So I am wondering if we can change the rules for Crafting. As they are written, they are kind of - well, to be frank - I don't like them.
The changes I'd make (if allowed) were to -
1. Allow us to use unlimited "Accelerated Crafting". In other words, if we up the DC by 10, it means we get it done faster - but if we up it by 20, or 30 - we'd get it done even faster - providing we can up it that much. But that would be up to you.
2. Allow us to use multiple assistants. In other words - If one person made the check, and three people "aided" that person successfully - the person doing the primary rolling would score X +6 (+2 per person aiding) and this would improve crafting mundane stuff a lot (it is only my opinion, of course).
As it stands, it takes us over a week to craft a healers kit - but we can brew a magic potion (if someone has the feat) in one day.
Is that an allowable change you'd make to the rules via crafting mundane stuff? I'm not talking about magical stuff, but regular stuff. Because if I had "Craft: Weapons" and wanted to craft a "Underwater Light Crossbow" (simple Ranged Weapons: DC 12 - cost 35 GP) - and I scored a 30 on my roll (very unlikely, but possible if I had the skill and tools) - it would mean it would still take me about a week to craft that one item.
Sorry for the exposition - I was just wondering if you would allow the two suggestions. If not, I understand - but given the speed we can craft things with the item creation feats; regular crafting just seems a little weak to me.
Please let me know what you think :)
Dhaavan
So through the recruiting we managed to get 5 new crewmen (6 counting Flynn's Halfling) Is it just a few cause of the size of the village, (5 out of 77 is quite a lot) or would we be able to gather more crewmen? Does it seem possible based on the time we've spend with the folks? Cause if there's so few people, it would be possible to have chatted with most and know after a long evening, maybe a couple days what every villager's thoughts on leaving are.
Could I roll another check to try to get a few more people, or should I leave it be? Dhaavan would be able to gauge that general attitude.
Variel Nightstorm
|
I don't now what Immortal will say, but 6/77 is a huge percent that we just took from the village. We can Try tomorrow but I don't know how fruitful those actions will be versus other possible actions you could take. Then again, no resources for magic crafting, so might as well spend the time if there is a hope in recruiting people.
Seijiro
sorry Variel - couldn't help myself lol.
Horatio Flynn
That is for the village - there may be other potentials in town that are on other ships. As of now, we haven't seen any - but if we're here a whole week - we may yet see some.
And with new ships means new potential crew members...
Variel Nightstorm
|
That would be an interesting RP development. See how one captain takes it if crew leave them to join us. Can you say instant enemies and a vendetta like you wouldn't believe. Only Harrigan would be worse since we killed his first mate and stole his ship.
No I dont know if I would go along with that unless someone sat down with the other captain first and talked to them and found out his position on the matter.
DM Immortal
Horatio, most of the info was answered within the body of my posts as I added a few extra things based upon your rolls. There aren't any other firearms in the town that you have seen. There is a large amount of silk but this makes sense as Rickety would need to keep a large supply on hand in order to outfit the sails of ships he squibs or upgrades.
6 is the most you all will get from the town, it was originally going to be capped at 5 but I gave you all one more due to Horatio's natural 20.
There are no other ships in town, which does not surprise you as there is only one dry dock.
Horatio Flynn
GM: No worries. Often, though, I ask questions and I sometimes feel that with all the posts they may get missed in the shuffle, which is I was curious.
Having the answers more cut and dry just clarifies for me that you had a chance to read over the questions.
Like, for example - what did you think about the questions I had for crafting via the discussion thread? Hopefully the answers are both "yes" ;)
Well, in any case - back to the game!
