The group is already on the beach (the longboat reached the shore without incident). The bubbling came afterwards when Dhaavan's summoned water elemental appeared and began scouring the bay for any threat. The bubbles were several hundred feet away (as per Immortal's post), in the water, from the party's current position on the beach. There are no bubbles now - just still water. Since the island drops away pretty steeply by all the shore, the ship is anchored about 100 feet away so as to not be in danger of running aground.
There is already a map of the fort with grid lines (albeit presently without grid numbers). Immortal placed it to the side of the main map of the island. Immortal gave the information pertaining to the outer walls of the fort (Outer wall is 15' high, several interior buildings are 20-30 feet and wooden, the tower looks ancient and of different design. It stands about 100 feet tall).

Thanks, Co-GM, I appreciate that :)
I know that the GM had adjusted the map somewhat earlier and gave the run-down on the walls of the fort, but I guess my question was more about the bay and water rather than the fort, especially as the rest of the party seems good to go for exploring the bay.
Anyhow, I know you and the GM have plans, so no rush or worries - but since the others are now ready to go into the water, Horatio will do whatever he can to aid them, but I'd still kind of like to know what the bay looks like via feet/grid to know distances for both ranged weapons and spell effects, just in case.
Anyway, I hope you have a great night!

Co-DM's Tricorne |

Okay, so I have this right, going ahead and exploring the fort is halted at this time because there are some who want to take to the water in the bay and look for whatever may be in there (several hundred feet from shore)?
And Rain isn't wanting to explore the bay at this time. She wants to continue on with the fort, just to be clear on her thoughts (as you mentioned the rest are keen to explore the bay).
As to a grid map of the bay, as soon as I know what the group's exact plan is and who is doing what (a summary/rundown can be posted here on discussion thread to save time and confusion) then a map can be provided tomorrow. Thanks.

Co-DM's Tricorne |

Immortal is still busy with work-related stuff today and I'm not sure if he will post later in the evening or not at this stage (he has a certification exam in an hour).
I'm currently at work and will try to get some things answered and up on the board in the quieter moments.
Thanks for your patience. :)
Addendum: If by chance Immortal or I miss responding to checks on the game thread, please drop us a quick line on the discussion thread as a reminder. It's easy enough to miss checks and ooc among the longer, numerous postings. Thanks, guys.

no problem take your time Rain, I mean co DM.

Horatio Flynn |

Apologies to all - I've had some spotty internet issues on my home computer, but hopefully the problem has been fixed.
Co-GM: Small question about the map - I thought the coast was running north/south and the ship was off the east coast. In the map it runs east/west and the ship is off the southern coast.
I only asked as I thought the fort was west of our current position on the beach, not north.

Seijiro |

Leaving for a con early in the am tomorrow and limited posting, if any, til then... please bot me as necessary to keep the flow of game going... thanks and see you all Monday night when i get home and catch up.

Co-DM's Tricorne |

As I said, Flynn, the map is a simple visual aid (and the coastline curves on the true map). The fort is indeed to the west, but I couldn't find any post which said how the ship was parked in the ocean so I placed it where I did for the time being. It can easily be moved on the map to its correct position and will be once I'm back on a comp.
Jiro, have fun at your con. :)
Addendum: A reply to Horus' perception check was given in the post with the Know check spoiler regarding the old dock, Flynn. It's right underneath said spoiler.

Co-DM's Tricorne |

The sea exploration map has been amended and is ready for tokens to be placed (again it's just a simple, visual reference guide and not the actual outline of the bay). I did not change the grid/axes markings, so please go with the ones there as I'm at work and don't have time to switch them around (not that it really matters).
Thanks. :)

Horatio seems surprised at Neko's presence, but says nothing as the golden cat bounds off.
In an earlier posting when Rain was getting in the longboat, I had Neko hop into the boat, too. Alas, when I edited the posting at the time, the part about Neko disappeared without my seeing it (I was at work and rushing to make the post). I'm not sure why you're surprised Neko is there because she always is UNLESS I post saying otherwise. Thanks.

No problem with not switching the surge. Glad to know though what is needed to hit and that I did use a surge. Come one guys pile on the damage!

Seijiro |

back and catching up ... will read gameplay now... but I hope someone botted me instead of holding up the game.

![]() |

just a heads up all that I may not be on after this as work is kicking my rear and on call as well.

Seijiro |

It took all week for me to get caught up in all my games and now a sudden death in the family has me traveling up north tomorrow (thurs), a funeral on friday and driving home on saturday - This time I will have my computer with me but posting will probably only at night, same with sunday as I'll be at the oscars til late. sorry for any delays in gaming, but I should be back to normal daily posting on monday.

DM Immortal |

Very sorry to hear about your loss Seijiro. Also did you say AT the Oscars? If so that is awesomely cool!

Seijiro |

Hey Gang -
I'll be gone for he weekend and won't be able to post until Sunday night, unfortunately.
So via his last post, Horatio will do what he can to make sure that no enemies have been going in between the fort and other places.
From what we've seen the fort has no cultivated land near it, though it does have shelter. So if bandits ARE living there, they'd need to leave to get food via hunting/gathering or whatever - if we can find a trail or tracks, then maybe we can guess what we're dealing with first?
The exploration is not meant to take time "In-Game" - it's meant to be a quick thing just to see if we find anything for RP purposes (it's what Horatio would do).
After the octopus was defeated, I'd also take a few minutes to search the remains of the docks to get a sense with what we're dealing with if we want to build a dock (thinking we could build something quickly to make things easier for our ship, but doubtful now; again, that is a complete RP thing).
He'd also suggest that we bring at least two more NPC's from the ship to guard or boat if we have to wander off - if the boat is captured/destroyed it will be a pain to get back to the ship in case of an emergency; also, we only have so many boats anyway.
Finally, after Variel suggested to Rain about exploring in the air, Amen-set will naturally do what she can to aid her senet and follow Rain up (though more clumsily, of course). Though she is not as fast or skilled as Rain is via the flying, she will be able to (hopefully) Aid in Perception Checks and - if Rain agrees to go and something attacks her - she still has the musket to help aid Rain from anything that might assault her from the tower itself.
Rain - if you'd like to Bot Amen-set's Aid Checks to help your Perception roll, or Bot her in case you get attacked (this assumes you want to go up there, that is) that's totally cool.
When we're ready to advance inside via Marching Order Horatio will be at least two people back in the party so he can offer Range Support for the front-liners.
Amen-set will be at the rear (or close to it) so she can also offer Aid with Range (and also because she's not that powerful).
We still have some wounded now - did anyone remember a Wand of Cure Light Wounds?
GM - Horatio can use the spell Mending to Fix his firearm (given its size) - but if not, he'll fix it using Mundane Means, but he doesn't want to advance until it's fixed - if that's okay?
That said -
Have fun storming the castle!

DM Immortal |

Hey all, turns out it was a false alarm with my dad after all that which is awesome. I will do an update tonight and thanks for the patience.

Seijiro |

so glad to hear your dad is okay... that's always scary. no problem on the wait - real life and family must always come first!

![]() |

Glad to hear immortal. Just make sure he still takes it easy for a few days just in case.

DM Immortal |

Thanks guys. Yeah it was scary but ended up being something really minor that presented a lot bigger.

Horatio Flynn |

GM - I am glad your father is okay, and I am glad you and your family are better now.
Co-GM/Rain - I am sorry you are unwell. I hope you feel better soon :)
To All - I need to read the posts regarding what happened and I will have a response up soon.

Rain Taneththir |

Thanks, Flynn.
Still having issues with my eyes. I'll try to post tomorrow. Really sorry for the hold up. Need some sleep, so I'm headed to bed.

DM Immortal |

Hey guys, Sorry for the delay. My middle started running a 104 degree fever and I've spent a good bit of time trying to help him feel better. Taking him into the doctor tomorrow because it's been two days and just won't break. Drops for about an hour or two with ibuprofen but shoots back up after that.

![]() |

understand completely. Take care and good luck.
P.S. I just know you will drop another 10k in gp our way as an apology.

Horatio Flynn |

Hey guys, Sorry for the delay.
It's alright, GM - do what you got to do. Meantime, tell your middle that if he gets better, tell him I'll bring him some new LEGOs...
P.S. I just know you will drop another 10k in gp our way as an apology.
I'm totally down with that Variel, on the other hand, I wouldn't mind a new level while we're at it ;)

Horatio Flynn |

Thanks, Flynn.
No worries, Co-GM/Rain, we can be patient. Meanwhile, you do what you need to do to get better!
In the meantime, I guess I'll have Amen-set turn on some K-BILLY Super Sounds of the 70's and sing a little Steeler's Wheel with Mister Blue :D

Seijiro |

no worries - RL takes priority... hope the little 'un feels better soon.

DM Immortal |

Thanks everybody. Just wanted to make sure you know i haven't forgotten about you. I posted a bit of info to keep you going until tomorrow

Horatio Flynn |

Just a heads-up, I won't be able to post again until my Saturday night (northern hemisphere's late Friday night).
I hope everything is okay, Rain. Meanwhile, if you'd like, we can Bot you if that will help?
That said, I hope you're doing well and we'll see you soon :)

Horatio Flynn |

I don't require botting as I'll only be gone from the boards a day (I'll be back posting tomorrow). Thanks, Flynn.
It's cool - I think I was a little out of it anyway, for some reason I thought today was Tuesday not Thursday :)

DM Immortal |

so yeah, middle one has strep AND the flu lol. poor little guy. I'll give him this he sure doesn't complain much. Dudes a trooper. Anyway, ill update tomorrow. Teaching all day but might be able to get a post in at lunch, if not then when i get home.

![]() |

take your time and good luck with the little one.

Horatio Flynn |

Sorry, I’ve been pretty busy today and tomorrow is another 12 hour work day and I’m pretty tired. That said, here’s something that some might find interesting…
Notes on Calendar, Moon Cycle, Days of the Week –
Game started on what would be considered July, or Erastus the 29th in “Real Life” in the year 2012.
At that point I kept a track of the “Moon Cycle” via an Online Calendar for the Year of 2012 which was moved to Arodus, and later Rova (and so on). All of the months were correct, if we still base the Calendar/Passage of Time starting at July, 2012.
However, though we played the game for some time, we eventually took a break for a bit, then continued again in the year of 2015.
At this point I put up the Calendar again, but I redid the Moon cycle for 2015 to coincide with our reboot.
I did this for several reasons.
1. The moon affects the Tides and Vision for Night Fighting, and at the time, Horatio was unable to see in the dark (that has changed with his GM’s Blessing). However, knowing if it was a “Full Moon” or “No Moon” was something I felt was useful for planning both sailing via Tides and his tactics during Night Fighting.
2. Keeping Track of the Day of the Week and the Month was something I felt would be great for Social RP and Flavor, as we could even use that RP for our characters (like using In-Game dates for character birthdays, for example).
Also, given that we’ve had certain things happen to our characters “In-Game” such as assassinations or other threats, knowing how many “Days” it’s been since those things have happened was a good strategy (I believe) for planning stuff.
As of now it’s especially important for Social RP as Rain and Variel have a Wedding and knowing how many days until that Date will be important. I apologize to both of you guys, but I couldn’t remember the formal date of the wedding, but I’ll make a note of it formally if you’d repost that?
Finally, we have a Pirate Council Meeting in 3 Months from the 22nd of Neth which should be roughly Calistril 22nd.
3. The time of the year should affect the weather. The GM’s been playing The Shackles Weather Pattern as if it’s in the Northern Hemisphere, so I’ve stuck with that, but I’m assuming that it would akin to the weather patterns in the Caribbean (mostly) for flavor reasons.
It could also affect things like the power of certain magical artifacts we’ve discovered (based on Holy Days to certain gods/goddesses) or other things like that (possibly).
This is the break down of the months and days -
Golarion Month……………... Gregorian Month… Days in Month…Season
Abadius (ah-BAY-dee-us)..... (January)……………...31 days…………...Winter
Calistril (KAHL-izz-trihl)........ (February)…………...28 days…………..Winter
Pharast (fah-RAHST)……....... (March)……………......31 days………….Spring
Gozran (GOHZ-ran)…….......… (April)……………......30 days…………Spring
Desnus (DEZ-nuhs)…….….... (May)………………......31 days…………Spring
Sarenith (sa-REHN-ihth)…... (June)………………......30 days………….Summer
Erastus (eh-RAS-tuhs)……... (July)………………......31 days………….Summer
Arodus (AIR-oh-duhs)……..... (August)……………...31 days………….Summer
Rova (ROH-va)………………...... (September)………..30 days…………...Fall
Lamashan (lah-MAHSH-ahn)..(October)…………..31 days…………....Fall
Neth (NEHTH)………………….... (November)……….....30 days…………..Fall
Kuthona (koo-THOH-nah)…….(December)………...31 days…………...Winter
Game Started on July/Erastus 29th (technically it was in 2012 but we had a hiatus and restarted the game with the same In-Game Dates, but a different lunar calendar coinciding with 2015).
This is the Moon Cycle based on December of 2015 (as November is almost over) – found here Moon Cycle
Important Dates Known
Rain and Variel’s Wedding: (Not sure, but I'll fix that soon)
Pirate Council Reviews Island: Calistril 22nd
In my posts when it’s new days I try to keep track of our general location and the time so we have a sense of how much time we have for spells as well as other details such as searching/meals and so on.
Based on what we’ve seen after Rajah’s casting, it should be roughly a Half Hour since his spell was Cast, we entered the water for a few rounds with the octopus, then returned to the shore and scouted the Fort, giving us at least 2 hours left in his spell as I believe he cast it at roughly 1:00 PM and now I’m guessing that between getting back to the beach and searching the perimeter of the fort it should now be roughly 1:30 PM (GM, please correct me if I’m wrong).
GM: The Dates I included are accurate based on the information you’ve given us (as in, starting dates, contract times and when we’ve reached destinations).
When you include the weather, I make adjustments accordingly to my notes. However, I should add that I have taken liberties to include Weather Patterns based on things like the Location of Terrain (such as claiming that the Weather at Drenchport was raining and “Cold”. I didn’t know if it was cold, but I figured it's November and rainy, so it would make sense and it’s good flavor for RP purposes).
I’m hoping that they are helpful for you via your plans and that they aren’t a complication. If I’m wrong about Weather, let me know and I’ll adjust it if it matters to anything other than Social RP – as for how much light via the Moon? Well, there’s always cloudy nights ;)
To help keep track of things, I am also going to cut/paste the things via Date to my character sheet so if anyone is interested in checking things for easy reference, they’ll find it there.
I hope this is a bonus/fun thing for players and GM’s alike, as it was a bit of work to code. However, if it’s not something which matters much, that’s totally cool.
I just thought it would be useful to know how long we have via Deadlines for events as well as fun for Social RP.

DM Immortal |

Hey Flynn,
Yes those are very helpful! Thanks for doing that!
--------------------------------------------
Everybody, I'm sorry for the delay but all three kids and my pregnant wife are now sick with the flu, two of them also with strep. I'm keeping it at bay so far but am running around like crazy taking care of them. I'm exhausted and not sure when I'll be able to update but probably won't be until monday. If I get a second I will throw something up (hopefully not literally lol)
Thank you for your patience. Just know this doesn't mean my interest is waning or anything like that. Just getting kicked in the teeth by life at the moment and trying not to have a heart attack at 35 ;-)
edit: I just realized I may not have told you guys but we are expecting our 4th in august. YAY!

Horatio Flynn |

Hey Flynn,
Yes those are very helpful! Thanks for doing that!
You're welcome! I'm glad you liked it :)
