Skinning of monster hides

Advice

Are there any general rules regarding the skinning of an animal or monster hide to be used in the creation of armor/shields? Specifically we killed a bullette and want to use its hide for armor. We still have about two weeks to travel to the nearest town. The survival skill was used to skin it, but is that skill enough to keep a hide or even use for the skinning of monsters?

Nothing in RAW under the survival skill really covers that. It all comes down to GM ruling, really. I'd put a DC of 10-20 on skinning a creature, depending on it's type. Then, I'd say you need something like Craft (leather working) or some such to be able to actually USE the skin for anything.

Yeah, survival really doesn't cover this. Id tend to require a craft(leatherworking) or profession(tanner) to produce something usable out of it.

Mending or prestididitation should be enough to preserve it although i have no idea of RAW RAI or otherwise on that it's just what i would do.

As to the value of the hide i would consider it to have a value (consider it treasure and give it a gp value) and use that as the raw materials cost for crafting armor even enchanting armor if the value was deemed high enough.

My group its a DC10-15 survival check.

In Dungeon Denizens revisited, I believe they have rules for Bullette-mail. May wanna check that out.
