I am tyring to figure out what class(s) Vardishal might be. One of my players just became "moldspeaker" during yesterday's session though right now he thinks that Tempest is an ego sword. If he figures out that Vardishal is sharing conscious with him, I think he will ask questions about him. I haven't had any luck figuring out what Vardishal might have been. The person who's the "moldspeaker" is a maguc.

Up to you.
The other Templars we know the class of were a Monk, a Fighter, and a Rogue...so any class seems possible, especially those with minimal spellcasting and good combat (he was the general of the group, after all). I've always favored Ranger, personally.
He also needs to be a class that can use whatever weapon type Tempest is, of course.

In my game, I consider him to be a paladin of Sarenrae; this is also the class of the moldspeaker, and that's not a coincidence. It makes a good general, and it seems like the sort of class that would give up worldly power to ensure that a great evil does not rise again, and then continue to keep watch even after death, and death again. Depending on the exact nature of his Paladin Oath, he might be considered a fallen paladin, which is even better. Fighter, cavalier and bard are also good options for a "general", depending how you want to spin it.
In answer to the original question, though... The moldspeaker shouldn't be able to ask "what class are you," or at least shouldn't be able to get an answer, from any NPC, and class abilities can be dressed up in different fluff. Answer the questions creatively, based on his role in the story rather than game mechanics which will never come up anyway, and try not to let them metagame it.

The magus is looking for ways to better his martial prowless and came searching for hidden techniques so I can see him asking about things like that. I can also see Vardishal answering questions if he thinks it would help his host ensure Jurvhul(sp) doesn't return/complete his task.

Vardishal can be a being skilled in both swordplay and magic, who can teach advanced and forgotten techniques, without saying, "I am a magus." And you don't have to build him as a magus, or keep his described abilities within the bounds of what a magus can do, because he's a genie who's been dead for centuries.
Don't let me kill your fun though. If you want to define a class and even a build for Vardishal, go for it.

He was the Templar's general but really he can be any class that fulfills that role, can be CG and uses a scimitar.
We don't know he used a scimitar. Indeed, Zayifid's use of one makes that an unlikely weapon choice, though a possible one, since Tempest can be anything. In my game (for example) it was a composite longbow, which may be part of why I always think Ranger for him.
