Stonelord and the Stalwart Defender

Rules Questions

Been playing around with ARG and found the Stonelord to be intriguing, but I have a question about it's DR in relationship to the Stalwart Defender.

Stonelord gets DR/adamantine starting at 2nd level, check got it.
Stonelord levels and Stalwart Defender levels stack for the purpose of Defensive Stance, check got it.
Stalwart Defender get DR/-- at 5th level which stacks with Adamantine armor but nothing else...,

which prompts the question, was the stonelords DR intended to stack with Stalwart Defender as some of it's other abilities do and they just got left out or is this an instance of using the best DR based on what's attacking you?

I think RAW reads to the latter but where does RAI lie?

Scarab Sages

I actually don't think they were meant to stack. Defensive stance is really the only instance where part of the Stonelord stacks with Stalwart Defender, and this is primarily because the designer wanted to give Stonelord some sort of offensive/defensive ability which would function independent of the dwarf's charisma attribute.

DR, on the other hand, would be a bit much, I think, and I think the author thought so, too, though that's purely conjecture.

DR/adamantine does not stack with DR/-, they are two completely different DR's. The Stalwart Defender's DR/- stacks only with DR granted by Adamantine Armor.

The label following the "/" with DR indicates what bypasses it.
DR/adamantine means that an adamantine weapon ignores that DR.
DR/- means that nothing can bypass it.

DR/- that stacks with DR from Adamantine armor means that if you are getting DR 3/- from your class and DR 3/- from the armor, you effectively have DR 6/-.
