Stacking effects that boost weapon damage size

A human is wielding a heavy shield, which normally does 1d4 damage. The shield has shield spikes (+1 damage size) and the bashing ability (+2 damage sizes). He then casts lead blades (+1 damage size) and enlarge person (+1 damage size) on himself.

Do these all stack? Why or why not? If they do all stack, how much damage does the shield bash do (I can't tell if it should do 3d8 or 4d6)?

Lead Blades does not actually increase the size of the weapon, so it stacks.


1d4->1d6->1d8->2d6->3d6 or 2d8, depending upon table and way of calculation used->4d6


If I remember correctly, shield spikes and the Bashing quality are not intended to stack, though it is not stated in the rules, and I wouldn't be surprised if lead blades wasn't intended to stack with Bashing either. If your GM allows it, there is nothing in the rules that prevents these from stacking so far as I am aware.


I think the effect of enlarge person and only one of the other three abilities would work together.

The shield spikes, bashing, and lead blades all increase the damage the weapon (or shield used as a weapon) would deal as if its size were larger. Since they don't actually increase the size of the weapon, each of these three effects would use the actual size as the starting point for the base damage.

During the time that enlarge person increases the actual size of the weapon, I'd guess the bashing quality would win since it's the largest increase.

Starting with medium heavy shield, I think that'd be 1d4 -> 1d6 (enlarged) -> 2d6 (bashing making its effective damage as if it were gargantuan.)

Is there any reason why multiple "deals damage as if it were larger" effects don't stack? It seems particularly odd for shield spikes and lead blades to not stack.

Separate increases from separate sources, none of which actually increase size.
