Re: does Channel Energy from different classes stack?

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

I have a character concept I am planning to use.

A Dhampire who begins his carrier (1st level) as a neutral cleric of Pharasma, and then, because of what he is, is driven out of the pharasman clergy, and continues as an oracle of pharasma.

I suppose my crunchy rules question is this: At first level, through his cleric class he gets the Channel Energy class feature. Because he is a neutrally aligned character worshiping a neutral god, he gets to choose if he is going to channel positive or negative energy. I plan to have him choose positive energy.

I plan to have him then at second level (after he gets booted from the clergy) take his second level in Oracle. I plan to take the life Mystery, and take the Channel revelation. For third level, I also plan to have him take a second level in Oracle, and to continue that way.

So does the Channel Energy class feature he gets from Cleric, and the Channel Energy class feature he gets from Oracle stack?

In other words, at third level, will he channel Positive Energy as a 3rd level cleric?

My feat selection will be Selective Channeling at 1st level, and then at third level Versatile Channeler.

Thanks.

Sadly no they are separate they don't stack

Silver Crusade

Phasics,
Thank you for providing me a link. It has been interesting going through the FAQ to see what the writers and developers have had to say about certain questions.

For a PFS game, one has to follow the rules as they are laid down and the interpretations in the FAQ

However a home game is different.

“The Most Important Rule
The rules in this book are here to help you breathe life into your characters and the world they explore. While they are designed to make your game easy and exciting, you might find that some of them do not suit the style of play that your gaming group enjoys. Remember that these rules are yours. You can change them to fit your needs. Most Game Masters
have a number of “house rules” that they use in their games. The Game Master and players should always discuss any rules changes to make sure that everyone understands how the game will be played. Although the Game Master is the final arbiter of the rules, the Pathfinder RPG is a shared experience, and all of the players should contribute their thoughts when the rules are in doubt.” Page 9 Core rule book.

In a home game you can decide how you want to run things, and follow the clarifications in the FAQ or discard them depending on weather you agree with them or not.

It wasn’t the answer I wanted to hear, but it is good to get a “official” clarification even one I disagree with.

Thanks,
Elyas

no worries mate ;)

For a home game If you presented me a good character concept and had a multiclass that stacked channel energy I'd probably let it fly, although I'd be keeping a close eye on uses/day so it stays in line with a normal cleric's channel

I am actually running a 2nd level Dhampire Oracle of Pharasma in a home Carrion Crown game.

We leveled to 3rd level today, and I asked the GM if I could take a level of Cleric. I explained by the FaQ that the channel energy didn't stack. The GM said that was ridiculous. Another player piped up, if sneak attack, uncanny dodge, and evasion class features stacked, then Channel energy should stack.

The GM, thought my choice of adding a level of Cleric made allot of sense because my character after arriving in the little town that the AP starts in, spent allot of his time at the Temple of Pharasma helping out, and doing research. The local clergy had accepted him.

The GM said i had to pick either the Oracle, or Cleric class for # uses per day, and suggested cleric. I mentioned that that would give me two more uses of channel undead. The GM felt that could only help the party, more healing.

I explained that part of my character concept was that in order to fully understand life, you also must understand death... kind of a ying yang thing. I asked if it would be ok to take the Vercitile channeler feat so i could eventually take Command Undead and Turn undead. My GM liked the idea and gave me the green light to take the feat, even though it is for "clerics" only.

Again thanks for steering me towards the FAQ
