Flying creatures and special attacks

Rules Questions

Hi,

What are the rules regarding a flying creature, say a wyvern, grabbing and lifting someone off the ground and carrying them away?

What if it was a small creature (halfling/gnome).

Also can flying creatures do things like bull rushes or overruns?

Can it use the spring attack feat to do "fly by" type attacks, dipping down into range, lashing out with talons then flying back up?

Thanks!

I believe it would be a grapple check & if you Pin your opponent you can possibly attempt to fly off with them.

As far as Overruns & whatnot, if you are asking for player use, that would be up to the GM as some of those abilities would be available in the Bestiary. if you are using it as a GM...check the Bestiary I believe there are some monster only abilities such as "Fly By Attack" that have certain rules that accompany it.

You don't necessarily even need to pin, I think. First round, the wyvern grapples the target. Second round, the wyvern sustains the grapple and moves the grapple. (see grapple rules for more details)

Thanks!

Fly by attack is just what I was looking for!

Also I was looking at the grapple rules but wasn't sure if things were different for flying, but i suppose moving at 1/2 speed would account for the weight of the grappled opponent.

Essentially, I wasn't sure if things like flight speed or native strength played or size played a part in it. Like a pixie trying to lift a gnome or something.

That's all handled in the CMB & CMD of the creature when dealing with the grapple now naturally a pixie trying to grapple anyone is going to be difficult based on size of them vs anything else.

Str is handled within the CMB & CMD & Dex is also handled in CMD &there is a feat to allow you to supplement your dex for your CMB if you plan to use CMB a lot & are dextrous. So look over the grappling rules & see if it would be to your benefit, though something like this would ideally be handled with grapple rules.

Also remember the rules for carrying capacity. You can keep flying until you hit your max load (as far as I can tell), but being under a medium or heavy load will slow your wyvern down and give a penalty to Fly checks, since it's a Dex based skill (see the section on carrying capacity for the specifics).
