I got the chance to listen to Mike Brock on the Know Direction Podcast. Was nice to get to associated a voice with the words and hear some hints about Season 4.
Great Job Mike. :)

.
If he cuts Silver Crusade however he might face a massive mass exodus of players.
He said time and time again that it's not him that will make the decision on a faction being cut, it's up to the players and how they work on the overall faction goal... so if Silver Crusade gets cut, the players can only blame themselves.

Thanks for spreading the word, Lass.
I am trying to listen to it via Windows Media Player and getting a message that the format of the file doesn't match the extension. Anyone else having issues with this?
Is this still happening? It's a standard MP3 file so it's supposed to be Windows Media Player friendly.

My computer appears to be opening it in quicktime.

In my mind the correct response was "People still use Windows Media Player?"

Let's cross that bridge when we come to it - if every faction's followers do well enough, then it's possible that none of the factions will be dropped. I didn't hear anything in that interview that sounded anything like, "The end of season 4 will definitely see a faction or two dropped."
But idle, unfounded, and pointless speculation and running around like chickens with our heads cut off are what the boards are FOR!

What's going to happen if your faction get nixed? Will you lose Prestige when you are forced to switch?
We have a plan and some ideas. I'm not going to spoil these until a faction starts floundering and it is a real possibility the faction may get cut.

Neat! It's good that you guys already have ideas, should that day come...

Summary execution?

If the faction completion percentage is going to be used as a metric, I really hope that only season three or later scenarios will be used to evaluate the newer factions! Both my wife and I have characters who have point blank refused (or, at least, ignored) faction missions because the new-to-old faction mapping (Shadow Lodge to Cheliax & Silver Crusade to Andoran) meant each ended up with missions that were contrary to the tenets of their true faction.

I would assume that they'll only count the current season for the faction goals, since the previous seasons they really didn't have any goals except seeing us pathfinders jump through hoops to retrieve their trinkets. :)

We will only be looking at Season 4 and forward.

Different source for speculation: will it be purely numbers-based, or based on percentages? If there are half as many Osirians as Andorans, but most of the Osirians finish their missions while only 75% of Andorans do, then the Osirians are relatively more successful, even though they might have lower completion numbers.
Then the ousted faction is set up as a villain for Season 5...

So if I'm judging a table I now have an incentive to prevent players aligned with factions I dislike from completing their faction missions?
And that falls squarely under the "Don't be a jerk" part of the Guide. I would expect VCs and VLs to step in quickly and nip that in the bud. Also, word would get out pretty quick and that GM would most likely find himself left with no players.

Oh, I wouldn't do it. I (try to) abide by RAW. But I can see the potential for abuse. I also reckon that if I chose to fudge things I could do it in such a way that it wouldn't be easy to detect (at least based on the type of faction missions I've seen so far). Perhaps the new-style season four faction missions will be sufficiently different to make that harder.

Factions will not be placed in direct conflict with one another, and it's entirely possible that all 10 factions will succeed with flying colors season after season. There's absolutely no benefit to anyone of preventing another faction from attaining their goals. Except griefing, which is, as Mike said, covered under the DBAJ rule.

What a shame - does this mean I'm no longer allowed to burn Taldan Missions ;(
1) Yes - I have a track record doing this
2) No - it just seems to happen - I'm not to blame - honestly
3) Yes - it has become a local running gag as I'm not to blame but it still happens
Disclaimer:
The first one happened as player. I did innocently throw a fireball. Yes - I took into account collateral damage - aka - burning some papers - to fullfill the Andoran mission. I honestly was 100% unaware that there where other papers stored as well that the Taldans wanted to be preserved.
The second and third Taldan mission going up in flame was as GM - but honestly it wasn't my fault. The Taldans where looking around for an item and it just happened when they spotted it that they triggered a trap that a) knocked them out and b) let their mission go up in smoke.
This was really bad trap design ... And it was the Taldans themselves that approached from the wrong direction (and therefore triggered the traps - all I did as GM was to take care to exactly know where each of there steps happened to be to adjucate it objectivly.
Faction mission 4 - if you are looking for an alchemist book then maybe it isn't a good idea to take out a flask of Alchemist fire and target the table of the Alchemist with more Alechmist fire with the intend to cause an explosion.
As it was the Taldan player himself I granted him the wish to set fire to the table - ooopss.
Faction mission 5 - Going back to the place of my first fireballed mission I'm taken off guard as GM when the players suddenly decide make a pire on a wooden desk (as it is the best source for burning fuel) to dispose the BBE. Yes - the Taldan player took part in setting flames to it. It reduced the perception check to find the hidden gold a lot - but the paper hidden with it - ooops - maybe he should have searched before playing pyromaniac.
Honestly - I'm not targeting Taldans. I'm just not stopping them ;)
