Mithral Armor Spikes

Rules Questions

1) I know that when enchanting armor spikes, they are treated as separate from the armor. Does that also mean that the cost of Mithral armor spikes would be 5050GP (10 lbs x 500GP/lb + 50GP)? The armor in question would also be Mithral, if that is relevant.

2) Can armor spikes be added to armor after purchasing, or do they need to be included when the armor is first acquired?

Thanks!

Since the wording is "you can have spikes added to your armor" I would say that yes, you can have them added to your armor later. They don't have to be built in when the armor is made.

If you intend to use the spikes as a weapon (why would you add them if you weren't?), you have to price them like a weapon. So the spikes would indeed cost you 5050 gp to add to your armor. Which is a bit silly, since a breastplate (which weighs 30 pounds) costs 4200 gold to be mithral, but the rules are weird sometimes.

That's what I thought. Thanks!

You could have mithral armor with adamantine armor spikes.

True. I was looking at Mithral more for the weight reduction and silver properties. Doesn't seem cost effective, though.

Silversheen armor spikes will cost only an extra 750gp.
Count as silver, immune to rust.

The weight reduction for armor spikes would be rather trivial.... unless your strength was like...a 5.

Yep. That's where I'm heading.

Mithral Spiked Gauntlet is cheaper.

Mithral added to weapons seems like an afterthought and is priced rather rediculously. For example: in the case of a Mithral Dart the price is 250.5gp and that includes the masterwork property. However, a Masterwork Dart costs 300.5gp. Huh?

non-RAW mithral idea:

Mithral weapons should cost a flat a amount somewhere between Silver and Adamantine. My personal taste is about 1000-1500gp. Perhaps 20gp for ammunition, 500gp for light weapons, 1000gp for one-handed, and 1500gp for 2-handed.

However, that is just my take. It is not RAW (and I haven't even playtested it in my group).
