Hey guys, I think this would be a clean way to get our ideas mixing without having to use the PM system. I'm going to start reading all of your backstories and consider how I might meet and get along with each of you.
Edit: Count me out of the reading back stories business. This is the place to get to know you!

![]() |

Well, I was thinking that Rohan met Adrien and Talon through the friendly tournament held at the festival. And when I say met, I mean beat the tar out of. Or vice versa. And for Zelaria, I just think back to a past life when they met in the Rusty Dragon. With Esmeralda, it might be the same way, but I'm not sure.

Esmeralda Klimo |

Hello! Esmeralda would most likely have met both of you at the Rusty Dragon as she works and lives there. You both could have witnessed her giving a performance or simply by her taking your order for a few drinks or food. She is very friendly and wouldn't mind hearing a few tales of adventure from newcomers.

Zelaria Quiatris |

I'm thinking to tie my gal to Ameiko she might have been working in the Rusty Dragon for some time, earning her daily bread while her haunts fling it from her
As I recall Rohan was a sailor, right, could be he's been to town more than a few times, and shyly tried to chat Zelaria up at some point, while Copper did so more suavely and ate her bread and food like a champion.
I really don't like reading backstories because it feels like cheating, and I'd rather get to know your character through actual interaction than knowing everything laid bare. Rohan has a bit of an edge there because he knew Zelaria the disco/rave light Dreamspun Sorceress and her backstory has not changed very much.

Esmeralda Klimo |

Hello Zeleria. Our back stories are actually quite similar. We were both Varisian and bandits attacked our home and killed our families. I was thinking we could be from the same travelling village and due to being the only survivors we became friends after we were rescued and brought to Sandpoint. Esme wandered between homes for a bit before settling in with Ameiko so she could have convinced her to let you work there.

![]() |

Zelaria, I think you've got a good point. I'll start here with all of you.
As for how Adrien would get to know anybody, you would find him walking around town during the day well dressed. Not in the garb of a noble or anything, but his attire looks clean, and well taken care of.
He would be often at the Rusty Dragon drinking and socializing, though you'd never catch him drunk of his own accord.

Rohan Drake |

Yea, that seems like the easiest route. And yes, Rohan was a sailor after leaving his home. What you described is pretty much how the pair met Zelaria.
Step One.
Copper eats something.
Step Two.
Copper makes Rohan talk to a pretty girl to get him out of his shell.
Step Three.
Copper watches while he eats some more. Rohan looks awkward as he tries to not offend said girl.
Step Four.
Girl is charmed by Copperscale's awesomeness and makes friends with the pair despite Rohan's bumbling.
Step Five.
Copper eats more and grins like a champ.
Or something like that.

Zelaria Quiatris |

Hmm, or perhaps she could be working on a ship's galley, which might explain why she knows Rohan and Copper better? A lady who is of Desna might be welcome aboard a ship, and fresh water and cure lights are always good, too, in case of PIRATES yargh!!
Not to put your efforts Esmerelda, I just think that TWO PC's in one spot with very similar stories might try to chew up the scene around each other, and Ms. Ameiko is the owner.

![]() |

For Esmeralda and Zelaria, Adrien would absolutely adore the company at the Rusty Dragon. You would find him there nightly enjoying song, dance, and conversation.
As for Talon, Adrien might see him at the bar, occasionally raising a glass or two to something he might say aloud. Adrien would be caught telling stories and laughing with those he comes in contact with. He is genuinely interested in hearing about other people, and would take the time to listen.
As for Rohan, I think you've got a great idea! Adrien wouldn't shy away from the chance to test his skills, and show them off too. Care for a simple duel of strength?
And yes, worthy adversaries sounds fantastic.

Wow, step away for few minutes and look how fast things progress.
Let me do some reading and reflect. Like the ideas out forward this far. One question I have is how meaningful or intertwined the associations should be. On one hand I'd argue for more but on the other hand there is something to be said for these stories to evolve through gameplay, maybe that is something that we can do here.
Looking forward to it guys.

Rohan Drake |

That could work too. Though I did like the whole local girl thing you did before. But having a fellow sailor would be nice too. You could join Copper in getting Rohan to talk to people.

Rohan Drake |

Perhaps a wrestling match?
Perhaps. Or a boxing match if Adrien doesn't mind getting a black eye or two on his pretty androgenous face.

Adrien Duran Mandreiv wrote:Perhaps a wrestling match?Perhaps. Or a boxing match if Adrien doesn't mind getting a black eye or two on his pretty androgenous face.
you tempt me to change my avatar haha. I had such a hard time finding something that fit the description. I'll keep looking.
As for what we will do, lets leave it to chance1 - Boxing Match
2 - Wrestling Match
1d2 ⇒ 1

Esmeralda Klimo |

No problem Zelaria. I understand. When I first realized how close our backstories were I thought about changing it but then thought it be interesting if our characters knew each other better. If you want to go the sailor route its all good.
For those that already have lived in Sandpoint for a time I think it would make sense to at least be somewhat familiar with those who live there but for those just entering I think it would make more sense to build that relationship during gameplay.

Rohan Drake |

Well it does give me another idea. One that involves the 5 step program mentioned above except that Copper mistakes you for a girl and makes Rohan talk to you, only to find out otherwise. Step 6 would be hilarity ensues.
Boxing match it is!

![]() |

I will have only been in town for up to 3 days before we start. You would have most likely seen Adrien in conversations and laughter with other patrons.
He would also pull the gentleman card if things got a little rowdy while drinks were being served, thought he wouldn't necessarily perceive if the gesture would be welcome or not before doing so. (good diplomacy, not much sense motive)

Talon Eldercourt |

A thought, not to sidetrack any of the other ideas, just brainstorming ... along the lines that have been suggested - initially comaradarie has developed socially, by flirt, by flaunt, by fesitivity, whatever ... and along the way each of us has picked up on some of the others traits or outstansing talents, or in Zelaria's case, quirks.
Perhaps there could be an initiating incident, as we start to turn into the gang from Cheers, a group of thugs or transients in from the wilds or on shore leave have had too much ale one night and really present a problem for Ameiko and we have to step in - then perhaps, through the enounter we catch a first true glimpse of each others prowess and resourcefulness and at the same time endear the favor of Ameiko.

![]() |

I think that's a solid idea Talon. I see myself creating a healthy rivalry early on with Rohan at the festival. Perhaps after the boxing match, we'd find ourselves nulling our bruises with a few ales. It seems as though Rohan might already have a friendship going with Zelaria, which would tie that in nicely.

Zelaria Quiatris |

you know what we could do, what Rohan and I did in our first recruitment thread was kind of set the stage through RP so we got that flirting sort of stuff out of the way.
I'm a gm sometimes, and not to step on our's toes, but to set the scene, it could be as simple as Rohan and Zelaria's ship getting in to port, and Esmerelda is there to get the morning catch, or perhaps the latest news?
Just an idea, though... would be more... organic than going "oh hey, i should know you from x" and then when we open our mouths, our impressions are completely inaccurate.

Esmeralda Klimo |

Just a random question after reading you profile Adrien. How did you get your Diplomacy so high? After doing the numbers myself I only get a nine.
I think that would be a interesting idea Talon. Although we would have to ask the DM to make the event happen I don't see why he wouldn't do it. I was also thinking since Talon has found a weakness for wine and women lately maybe Esme could be one of those women? I don't know just throwing ideas out there.

Yea, I actually liked that alot when DMs did that with recruitment. It made things make more sense when they got to the actual gameplay. It also gives a glimpse of the writing style of the players. Maybe we could do something like that after we get the confirmation of the group in a few days?

I agree, it sounds like a great idea.
@Esmerelda - that was one of my concerns as well, don't want to go too far with the establishment of association. As far as her being one of them, sure - or perhaps something that failed to happen resulting in lingering tensions?

Esmeralda Klimo |

No problem Adrien. I was simply wondering because I wouldn't mind increasing mine a bit higher when I get the chance. We have three diplomatic people so I think we will be quite fine in that department.
@ Talon - That could prove quite funny if their was lingering tensions. I could just picture after being interrupted Ameiko giving a lecture to Esme for trying to take advantage of the poor half-elf.
We could also maybe role play a bit in this thread to get a feel for each other and show it to the DM to show our initiative. The sooner we work our our connection the sooner we can hopefully get chosen.

Zelaria Quiatris |

hookay *rubs hands together*
It's a relatively quiet morning at the harbor in Sandpoint. The seagulls wake with the fishermen, squealing for food and circling around the fishing boats as they are prepped for the day's catch. Several more smaller boats are mooring at the docks, crab and shrimp fishermen, for the most, in larger boats, bringing in several days haul for the local eateries.
Today is a very special day for the harbor master, a boat is coming from *larger location to be determined* Rohan, you have any ideas? and the fees for docking will be significantly higher than the local fisherman can afford to pay. And then there is the influx of trade that is to be expected from such a landing, as larger ships bring passengers, and thirsty sailors. Of course, Sheriff Balor has been informed as well, as drunken sailors often cause problems for the local militia. Very few are above rebuking an out of hand scuffle, but for the most, unless there is great cause to believe combatants will harm innocents, the militia are not paid well enough to interfere in the affairs of outsiders.
Besides, all available men will be needed on hand to man the upcoming Swallowtail festival, as the influx of merchants and tourists has already started, swelling the ranks of potential pick pocketing victims on the streets, and potentially the towns coffers for their patronage.

I can't tell you when this all fits in, but, for this scene, the stage is set. If any of you think you'd be around the town square during the festivities, you might witness this:
A crowd breaks out into a chant "FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT" as Adrien begins to lean back with his arms outspread, creating a sort of human arena amongst those attending the festival. A noticeable smirk appears on his face, staring into the eyes of his opponent, indicating that this isn't the first time he's found himself in a bare-knuckled fight with a crowd, despite being clean shaven, and in clean clothes. He removes his shirt and hands it to a spectator in the inner ring of the circle, leaving him in his shoes and some ivory colored trousers with dark blue lining.
"From the looks of it, I shouldn't expect a fair fight from you, though I'll give you the advantage of letting you know now that I'll be depending on skill, and nothing more. Drinks on the loser?
He offers a swift bow and says "Adrien Mandreiv"
Adrien then raises his fists, indicating that he's ready to go.
-Rolls initiative1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
^ a bit taken by the crowd it seems

Rohan Drake |

Hmm... I'm not that versed on port cities, so I got nothing. Sorry. On to the main event however.
Rohan steps through the crowd forming. The youth standing almost as tall as his opponent, though that does not seem to worry him. Rohan in turn removes his armor as well to ensure a fair contest. "You're on."But before it can begin, Copper makes his presence known. He walks to the center of the impromptu ring. "Ladies and gentlemen! Dwarves, elves, and children of all ages. Sandpoint is proud to be the stage for this epic bout. Standing to my right, your hometown hero! Adrien Mandreiv!" The crowd cheers and roars to life. "And standing to my left, my best friend and from parts unknown.. I've always wanted to say that. Rohan Drake! Let's get it on!" The little golden wyrmling quickly leaves the ring as Rohan cracks his knuckles.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Rohan takes the first move and rushes over to launch a right hook at Adrien.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 Would you be flat-footed? If so, I hit.
1d3 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

1d20 + 4 Would you be flat-footed? If so, I hit.
1d3 + 4
Not sure, though I would argue not flat-footed. Normally in combat you're aware but not necessarily ready. In this case Adrien is completely prepared, anticipating the fight as soon as the Wyrmling drops his arms, already on his toes.
Adrien strikes back with an overhand right1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
1d3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
your ac a 13?

Rohan Drake |

My AC is 12 actually. If we stick with normal combat rules, then yes you would be.
Rohan takes the punch and attempts to deliver an uppercut.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
1d3 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

![]() |

Until you act in a round you are considered flat footed, so it should hit
And i'll bite with the fight tomorrow. Husband is up, and he gets priority.
I'd agree with that since it's RAW as best as I know, though given the circumstances of a boxing match, I wouldn't consider either fighter flat footed as a DM. I'll leave it up to Rohan, what do you say?
EDIT: I aught to call my own shots. I'll take that one straight to the jaw.

Rohan Drake |

I'll say stick to Raw. Combat is combat.
Rohan grits his teeth as he gets clipped and counters with a jab.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 Though I think I'm gonna lose this fight anyhow.
1d3 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Rohan Drake |

Yea, the only real advantage I have is I hit harder.
Rohan deftly dodges the counter jab and tries for another hook since the last one worked so well.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 But not this time.
1d3 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Rohan Drake |

No sympathy from me. Atleast you're hitting.
Knowing he hasn't much left, Rohan goes for one more swing.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 Yep, none.
1d3 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Rohan Drake |

And Rohan is taken down. He drops to a knee before he fully goes unconscious. Copper seems distraught, but he announces the winner graciously. "And your winner, your hometown boy, Adrien!" The crowd cheers and pats the champion on the back as the little wyrmling tries to wake his friend.

![]() |

Adrien lifts both hands in the air, still a bit dazed from the fist he took to the nose right as they started. He fetches his shirt and puts it back on.
"Hey, HEY, Rohan, let me walk you back to the Rusty Dragon."
"Will you grab his armor?" He mentions to the wyrmling.
Adrien lifts up Rohan, putting his arm over his shoulder, and walks with him back to the Rusty Dragon. The two bust through the door and take a seat at the nearest table. A small crowd from the festival follows them inside, cheering and whistling as they enter the tavern.
"First round is on me, next two are on him!"

Rohan Drake |

Copper picks up Rohan's armor with his teeth and slings it onto his back as he follows the pair. The summoner for his part can barely hear Adrien. Eventually he does regain full consciousness in the Dragon."You fought better than I did. I was sloppy. You deserved the win and the adulation." Is the first thing he says. "Couldn't even focus to hit him more than once. His speed was too great. If I can't even apply my skills in an actual fight, what good am I?" Rohan shakes his head as he takes a drink. He seems rightfully disheartened. "Cheer up, buddy. I'm sure you'll wipe the floor with him next time! No offense, Adrien." Copper says from a neighboring barstool.

![]() |

"None taken" he says to the wyrmling with a smile.
"Much appreciated, though I'd be a bit more confident right now if you hadn't dazed me with that first swing. You just about knocked me out cold in two seconds flat."
"It's been a while since anyone's hit me that hard, sheesh" Adrien lets out a grunt and rolls his eyes as he rubs his throbbing jaw.
So what brings you to Riddleport, the festival, the women, the ale? I wouldn't pick you out as a native.
And with that I call it a night. That was intense! I'll see you all tomorrow.

Rohan Drake |

See ya. I'll call it a night after this one too then.
"Never lacked power. Just focus."
"Copper and Zelaria heard all about the festival and insisted we experience it after our ship docked here. Though now, I'm regretting it a bit." Rohan rubs his ribs while taking another drink. "If it weren't for me and Aria, you'd never get out and do anything fun." The little reptilian creature says in between mouthfuls of food.
