Eureka! Possible way to handle "Advanced Race Guide" in PFS...

I just had an idea and wanted to share it with the crowd... I know lots of people would like to see more "exotic" races from the upcoming release of the Advanced Race Guide in PFS play and I was thinking- why not allow someone to play one of the more "exotic" races (without a boon) if they are willing to pay 4XP per level?

The Exchange

Yikes!

Wow...I don't think people need more bonuses to play exotic races. A bonus like this might make base races even more scarce.

I'd love the chance to slowly play my yahoo, gain extra PA, and gain extra gold rather than level. It's seems better in every way to the slow track.

Then again, PFS is about enjoying the journey for me, not the destination.

This would destroy the wealth by level expectations.

A character turning second level would have 33% more wealth than a character advancing 3XP/ level.

Aside from that, personally I don't see slower progression as much of a penalty or dis-incentive at all. I play slow progression with my favorite characters which is 6XP/ level (and gets half gold).

I half expected the suggestion to be that Mike and Mark invent their own PFS custom race to make available to players who have the ARG, rather than open up existing races.

Now that would be... interesting. ;)

Yup, you and Pain both pointed out the further reaching consequences I hadn't grasped yet... it was just a brainstorm (or a braindrizzle) and thought I would throw it out. Hm, I guess I didn't think of it as an "advantage"...

You could have that player be forced to advance at slow progression. It takes them 6 games to level, and their wealth remains in check with others.

EDIT: Not saying I agree with this, just helping the brainstorm.

???
wha?

how about having them level faster say every 2 XP.

(edited to correct PA to be XP above)

33% less gold and PA to deal with. Now that would make them ... more uncommon, esp. at higher levels.

so, a new race invented by M&M...

hard candy shell (+2 natural AC?), and filled with chocolot... does this attract monsters?

Nitpickin -- if you can level every 2 PA, you could level after each game (assuming you did your side quest).

right! thanks, fixed it now. (otherwise then you would be getting 1/3 the gold ....)

I kind of like the fact that Mike has put these boons in place to reward the people who offer to GM games. I think it'd devalue that reward a bit if they were offered to everyone just for a change in how you level.

I personally think, that we should be allowed to have *one* exotic character per member. Of course the restrictions would be intense as I would expect. But only allow us one until that character dies or retires.

So that way, those who are complaining about PFS not being unique, can be silenced, and those of us core race diehards, don't have to worry about being overshadowed by a whole bunch on crazy races.

I mean. I would like an Aasimar. Just one is all I want.. And I would make them a fire/healing cleric of Sarenrae. That's all I want.. :D

I've brought this up, before its not possible at this time due to workloads. Although I'm still hopeful someday it'll happen.

Me too, Its pretty much the only race I really want to play besides the core races. His Holiness, Lord Aurel Diem, Anointed Son of House Diem, Blood of Sinashakti, Sacred Blade of the Empyreal Lords... will have to wait as well. :(

I managed to escape from Paizo headquarters with one of those new races. Quick, before they catch me--

I do appriciate the effort in attempting to offer another compromise for the 'boon races', even if it didn't seem as good an idea as first thought.

The Exchange

Requires you to sacrifice 3 lvl 12+ PFS characters who's souls are consumed in the ritual (no Rez). Support the hard core player and instantly know how evil that player is.
