See subject. I think the batterimg ram is small enough.

Shadow Lodge

Sure.

Backpack, Masterwork: "Like a common backpack, it can hold about 2 cubic feet of material in its main container."

Rams: "The most basic close assault weapons are iron-shod logs carried by one or more creatures to combine their strength."

There's no way a log will fit into a 2 cubic feet space.

Ram, Portable: "This iron-shod wooden beam gives you a +2 circumstance bonus on Strength checks made to break open a door and allows a second person to help, automatically increasing your bonus by 2."

This one you could probably get away with. Especially if you don't put it in the container and just strap it to the back like a bedroll. Does your DM really care about containers and storage?

Can a portable ram be made of adamantine? If so, how much would it cost?

No.

Grand Lodge

An adamantine Piston Maul would be better at smashing through doors than a portable ram.

I'd also say "No". We are probably talking about a iron shod 4 x 4 that is about 3-4 feet long.

You could however fit it into a type 2 bag of holding or a handy haversack as they would both have wide enough openings. (I say type 2 because I imagine a type 1 bag of holding being about the size of a dice bag or "belt pouch".)

Ah, if you are talking about an adamantine battering ram 8" in diameter and 4 feet in length--solid adamantine, then you are looking at an object weighing 2,200 lbs; assuming that adamantine has roughly the same mass/volume as iron. A one-ton piece of metal.

No, sir. Not in my game.

A battering ram, with an adamantine head.

Which is quite different than an adamantine battering ram! LOL Yes, I would allow an adamantine head for a portable or full-size battering ram. It would (on the portable version) still add about 100 lbs and greatly increase the cost. A full-size adamantine-head seige ram; it would be Grond from LoTR: Return of the King.

Well, adamantine weighs no more than steel, or iron for that matter. It is described as iron shod, and I believe that would imply an iron head. A portable ram incorporating adamantine should weigh no more than one with iron.

There is a difference between being shod and having a metallic head, BBT. A quarterstaff can be shod, but gains no bonus from the metal because it remains primarily comprised of wood. A mace, on the other hand, has a metal head and thus can benefit from being cold iron, silver, or adamantine, despite having a wooden shaft and leather wrapped grip.

It would be the same thing with a ram. Shod is just for flavor and a bit of reinforcement (i.e., to increase the hit points). An actual ramming head would permit you to bypass hardness of less than 20.

In my opinion. I do not speak for the rules here.

Battering Ram.
Notice the "Frequently, the ram's point would be reinforced with a metal head or cap while vulnerable parts of the shaft were bound with strengthening metal bands" part.
In fact, I imagine a portable ram without a metal cap of sorts would be quite ineffective. The portable ram is more like those utilized by swat teams of today. Of course, it would be made of primitive materials.

What would it look like when you smack a door with an andamantine ram? Would it just pass through the door like a hot knife? Would the door explode?

I love adamantine, it has a pleasantly over-the-top flavor to it. I remember in one game, I found a great-club that counted as adamantine. I called it "The Key" :)

Grand Lodge

Ignoring hardness is not ignoring hit points. It does not just "pass through."

Grand Lodge

Battering rams don't target HP, so adamantine heads would not have any effect by the rules.

Grand Lodge

True.
When using it as a weapon to attack creatures or objects though, it would.
I would love this for a Breaker barbarian, or monk of the empty hand.

Raging hurler?

"... and then he threw a battering ram at us!"

Caber tossing? ^__^

Grand Lodge

3.0 had stats for a caber. I wish Pathfinder did.

I know one thing.......a battering ram fits in a pair of boxer shorts.

Probably not in the backpack, but you could strap it crosswise to the top or bottom like where a hiker normally puts their sleeping bag.
