Precise shot for rays

Any way for casters to get Precise Shot for their rays without having to get the waste feat of Point Blank Shot?

The combination of firing into melee and nearly-always-there soft cover for an effective -8 is kinda ridiculous. Maybe I should encourage my wizard player to use his bow more so he can make better use of the feats.

Point blank shot isn't a waste, its a buff to hit and damage yo.

I thought that only applied to actual fired projectiles. It doesn't make sense to add damage to a ray for proximity.


Actually archery style rangers can bypass point blank shot and so can divine hunter paladins but not for wizards no. It takes improved precise shot to eliminate the modifier for cover.

As per weapon focus rays are considered a weapon for the purpose of these kind of feats.


All precise shot does is get rid of the penalty for shooting into melee -- however by clever positioning you can generally get rid of the penalty for cover too.


You're reading too much into what I said. I know precise shot only gets rid of the melee penalty--that's why I'm suggesting it to my wizard player, so he only has a frequent -4 instead of the -8.

An extra +1 to a slow BAB class is not a waste, at least if you expect to be making ranged attack rolls every combat...


Yeah, I just saw +1 to damage at short range and thought, "Well, that obviously only works with arrows." But even if only the +1 to hit applied to rays, it would be worth it.

Side note, my wizard has actually decided on his own to go Metal school and make use of Gravity Bow, so he going to get more use for the feat than I thought.
