Reworking a character, need some help.

Advice

Hello all and I hope you can help me out. I been playing a game in which me and the party I'm in have been faceing things that been effecting touch AC and I'm the only one in the party that been getting hit with it 95% of the time. My DM have aloud me to rework my character so I would like your help with that. So far I been fighting orcs with guns, a shadow demon (that fleed before can be killed) and 4 ghouts which I had a hard time killing because there incorporeal monsters.

So I'm asking what can I do, I am a 6 level fighter that seem to do better in dealing a hell loud of damage but not enough defence's to last too long. started with 20k in gold and got some stuff that I thought would do well which only the armor seem to be the only thing I feel thats not helping me but not fully sure how to get a better armor class. Im looking for a way to have high defences and attack damage at the same time.

Stats:
Str-21/23
Dex-18
Con-16
Int-12
Wis-14
Chr-10

Race: human (Race stat +2 Str)
Level 4 Attribute (+1 Str)
Archetypes: Two-handed fighter

Class bounce feats-
Furious Focus
Vital Strike
Weapon Focus (Nodachi)
Weapon Specialization (Nodachi)

Weapon Training: Blades, Heavy

Feats-
Cleave
Dodge
Power Attack
Toughness

Magical Itams-
+1 Keen Nodachi
+2 Full Plate
Belt of Giant Strength (+2 Str)

Gold left over-1,890

Thats what what I have in a nutshell, If theres a way to get a better touch AC in the level I am now or somthing more I can improve then tell me because I'm not fully sure what else to do.

Dat 51 point buy.

Instead of focusing your feats to hit 1-2 guys hard, maybe consider spending some on defense as well. Consider the whirlwind attack tree maybe? Pick up the Threatening Defender trait, and your combat expertise is only at -1, while payoff is at +2.

With those stats, this build would net you a touch AC of 17, and allow you to attack multiple enemies (whirlwind) without reducing your AC (Cleave).

Also, I would switch out the +2 armor for a +1, and get a ring of protection, which gives a deflection bonus, that affects not only touch AC, but also CMD. And/or spend some of the remaining money on potions that give deflection AC, like Shield of Faith, Protection from Evil etc.

Hypothetical touch AC peak results:
Dex: +4
Dodge: +1
Combat Expertise: +2
Ring of protection: +1
(OR potion of Shield of Faith/Protection from Evil: +2)
(Mage armor potion while fighting incorporeals: +4)

VS guns: 18/19
VS incorporeal: 22/23

Don't forget about the skill in combat; fighting defensively, it gives a -4 to attack but +2 to AC.

Also if bullets and/or arrows are still hitting you after doing your reworking, you can, as a free action, drop prone to give you +4 to your AC against ranged attacks. Don't do that with melee enemies nearby though.

If STILL bullets and/or arrows are giving you problems, take the two feats; unarmed strike and deflect arrows. Granted, you need one hand free to deflect arrows and you fight two-handed, dropping a weapon is a free action.

Dude, why don't you just get a bunch of potions of mage armour? They will give you +4 to touch AC and last for an hour (won't change your total AC, but it will boost touch). Or buy your arcane caster a wand and get him to zap you with it often, or even just stick a few skill ranks into Use Magic Device...

You have almost enough money left over to get a ring of protection - in fact, drop your full plate from +2 to +1 and you have enough for one there and then.

Together those two will give you +5 to your touch AC right off the bat with no need to rework your stats.

I find for me droping prone is not a good idea lol nore would droping my weapon on the time but it is somthing to consider. But using wonds I would not have thought about and that might just be what im looking for. Now the quesiton I have now is can you stake mage armor and the shild spell (if useing a wand for each spell) do they stake up?

Yes they stack, mage armour is an armour bonus, shield is a shield bonus. Obviously they will not stack with an existing weapon and shield, so your total AC won't change much, but your Touch AC will increase with them both to +8.

Then how can I bring it up on my herolab becuse I try clicking both spells on the adjust part of the character builder and it didnt change the touch ac what so ever, only think that have done it is shield of faith. Also would the spells work even if i have a +1 mithral chain shirt?

The spells will work, or they should. It may be a glitch in HeroLab.

What happens is, the spells are force effects, so they effect touch attacks. The chain shirt will have +5 armour bonus, so mage armour will not stack with it (it's a +4 armour bonus, like bonuses do not stack), but it should still increase your touch AC.

Not sure, though it will be a bit odd my fighter useing wounds just to bost himself lol. But yea the only thing that shows that up the touch ac is shield of faith and combat expertise.

Ring of protection dosen't seem to do anything for me unless is higher then a +2, mage armor dosen't show up on anything so unless theres somthing I'm doing wrong thats not showing things up (which can be) those 2 things are useless to me.

The only things that seem to help is shield and shield of faith (both wands) and combat expertise which give me a 28 Ac and a 19 Touch ac which is still much better then before. But I would still like to know how to fix it to show the touch ac or else I wont be useing mage armor if that make sense?

Other posters have had some good ideas so I will just add a few ideas.

Arrow Catching enchantment(+1) on shields provides a +1 deflection bonus against ranged attacks (including guns)

Arrow Deflection enchantment(+2) on shields allow you to deflect one ranged attack a round (including guns) as long as your not flat footed.

Not sure if you can afford it now but its something for the future.

Note that protection from evil and its kindred spells give a deflection bonus against enemies of that alignment.

Mage Armor and Shield will not help your touch AC.

They will however help your incorporeal touch AC.

It's a bit of naming that is confusing. Basically incorporeal touch AC includes everything that would help your touch AC + force effects. Mage Armor and Shield are both force.

You are right, that's my bad!

Alright I Think I'm good, with luck this will emprove a lot. Thanks again and hope your games are doing well too.
