i have been hearing a lot of fighter hate. so i thought i would come up with a contest (i need judges) people will create builds and post how they deal with scenarios. assume you have as your 3 companions, 1 rogue, 1 cleric and 1 wizard. you can specify thier rough details for further clarification
i would like to propose the following rules for the contest.
elite array
5th level
10,500 gp, no more than 3,000 of which may be spent on the same item
everyone is assumed to own the following free items. you may opt out og a given item for the purpose of encumbrance or whatever
1 mundane (not masterwork) backpack
1 waterskin
1 set of clothes worth less than 10 gold pieces
1 flint/steel
1 50 foot coil of hempen rope
1 weeks trail rations
40 units of mundane ammunition for thier primary ranged weapon (this will include thrown weapons too) this free ammo is not masterwork, nor is it magical or made of a special material
1 dagger
1 belt pouch
1 bedroll
1 spare change of undergarments (to deal with those embarassing fear effects)
a mundane sling
a mundane quarterstaff or club

Fighter
Paladin
Ranger
Cavalier
Barbarian
Samurai
Minimums
Must have a minimum of 18 Armor Class
Must have a minimum fort/will save of +3
assume you will face 3-5 encounters per day at a variable CR range averaging APL +1
1; what do you do when you are stripped of your primary weapon?
2; how do you deal with DR?
3. you get hit by a nasty condition, how do you deal with it. explain once each for staggered, fatigued, sickened, shaken, dazed, entangled, grappled, prone, charmed, color spray
4. enemy flies and/or has more reach/range than you, how do you deal with it? explain once each for flying foes, ranged foes, flying melee foes with more reach than you and flyby attack, and flying ranged foes.
5. enemy holds major mcguffin npc hostage, what do you do?
6. enemy isn't your primary target type (wrong alignment or creature type to get your class granted bonuses) what do you do?
7. you are captured and stripped of your gear, what do you do?
i will take any judges willing to help. and any judges can come up with additional scenarios.
