Need a miniatures case

Advice

Ok, now I know that there are a lot of websites that offer great cases and such, but honestly I hate having to type up my address and hope they get it right. If they link through amazon, then I don't mind since I can get my stuff to be sent using my amazon info.

I would prefer to get cases off of paizo if at all possible, even if they're supplied by a third party.

Now here's my dilemma:

I like to travel light, I like to take a bag and my laptop rather than drop something for cargo and be forced to wait for it when I arrive. I need a case that's small and can fit into my bag, some of the sabol stuff looks like they're bags all on their own. Any tips?

I thought this might be more appropriate in the products discussion page, but I don't seem to be able to open any threads over there.

How many models are you trying to move around?

Thinking about it, maybe 10, PROBABLY less. The thing is, the players can bring miniatures for their own characters (bit of a complication here: the OTHER guy who owns his own miniatures is going on vacation, so not sure the other guys will have access to them unless he let one of them borrow the set), if they can't, then maybe 15-20.

Hmmm 20 huh well that's pretty easy assuming you don't have any horribly monsterous sized ones. Are you looking for a dedicated case and is cost an issue?

Because the cheapest option is to line a small carrying case from home depot with some sheet metal and magnetize your model bases and toss that in your bag.

Most of my experience is with war game travel kits and those tend to be pretty huge.

Biggest I MAY end up using is a 2x2 miniature, though perhaps almost exclusively I'll be using medium sized creatures. Cost is not an issue :)

I would like though to be sure that my miniatures with small fiddly bits like mind flayer tentacles don't get damaged, though they may be a bit more durable than I'm assuming.

$10 tackle box from Walmart will probably do the trick

I use a gun case to hold all my minis. it's padded with the "wavy" foam so the medium size fits just right. For the larger ones, cut the foam. Mine is the size of a tackle box tray. it's fairly small and durable.

Bonus, you look like a badass when you get to the table with a gun case.

I second this.

Go to a thrift store and look for old jewelry boxes I have several in my collection. Many of them have separate cubbies but they display nice, and are easy to acess.

Because the cost is not an issue feel free to email me what you had set aside in your budget;)

Hmm... seriously for 20 miniatures? I used to use a Crown Royal bag for all of my dragons when I only had about 20 of them.

Go to BigLots! or a dollar store and you can find a suitable case for 20 minis for less than $10.

I doubt I'd get past airport security. It does sound like a great choice, but I take a flight every time I want a session with the guys, I'm not so sure I'd want to explain why I have a gun case every time I pass through (if they even sell those here).

I should probably mention I'm living in the middle east, we do have places that sell stuff for 5$ or less but they're not the same as stores in the US (stores in the US would most likely have stuff WAY better than what we have). We don't have a home depot, but I do believe there's an Ace hardware store here that might have some stuff. I'll look into jewellry boxes as well, I think maybe a collection of ring boxes (not sure what the technical term is) would help move the medium minis.

I need something that won't yield when I shove it in a bag that's going to probably see some bouncing around. I guess I can try and get my hands on a thin toolbox and then pad it with foam.
