God of monster hunting

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

looking for a GOD/ Organization much like the catholic church in the 1300's or the van helsing movie that is not uber ridiculous. my character has left being a inquisitor behind and now this organization/church has caught up with him and is forcing him to again take up the mantle of inquisitor once again. he organization is not evil per se but they will stop at nothing to wipe out evil monsters and keep the world safe.

any suggestions? this is for the alignment and domain. my character is currently chaotic good. and is doing this reluctantly.

Iomedae?

This sounds like some hybrid of Abadar and Cayden Cailean. Desna has a particular hatred of Lamashtu, but I wouldn't exactly say that Desna encourages Van Helsing style hunters.

that works thanks.I was going for more shadowy but i think i can make it work

Sarenrae (NG) might be a nice choice too. She's all about redemption, and sees that things that are beyond redemption be put down. She's got a pretty big grudge against Rovagug, God of Destruction and Disaster.

to touchy feely for me taste but thanks for the advice. I think Iomeda

I am liking Desna is there any way she could have a secret organization or a more militant section of her church? does she have inquisitors?

EDIT:I Am in the 4th book of the serpents skull and I have been forced into working for them to put down what ever BBEG is at the end of this adventure if this helps.

You can go use this god. The Hunter aspect seems apparent, and as it is vague, you can fill in all the holes, with tailored flavor. I can look for more.

Thanks for all the good ideas I will mesh them into one great idea.

Be sure his favored weapon is a musket, like Cixyron, or a under-utilized exotic weapon, like the Aklys.

I am a musket rapier southern gentlemen explorer/ monster hunter extraordinary! who prefers the free life not an organization who chafes and makes him kill.

Sir, we must have waffles! We must all have waffles forthwith! We must all think, and we must all have waffles, and think each and every one of us to the very best of his ability... perhaps too long my thoughts are awander, and graced as my thoughts be, they are begrudgingly worn upon my shoulders heavily. Turn in I must, for I dare not cast upon others this burden without questioning my own morality.
Be well, and may the sunshine of peace sparkle the dew within the cotton fields of your happiness.

Gorum probably has some clerics and inquisitors who hunt the biggest, meanest monsters they can find -- for the glory!

Well, those who hunt undead monsters probably worship Pharasma...but Erastil, being a hunter deity, might make some shred of sense...

Erastil?

protecting the community?

Well...I know its a bit of a stretch, but the idea of "hunting" seems kind of inherent to Erastil. I mean, part of his domain is keeping the community safe from the things that go bump in the night. To anyone that's read about Ustalav, less urban communities constantly live in fear or the hideous eldritch abominations which live right next door to them. Priests of Erastil would serve as monster-hunters in that scenario as a preventative measure to keep the villagers alive. Again...a bit of a stretch and very situational.

Liberty's Edge

I think Erastil fits perfectly (see statblock).

Erastil is more the god of hunting down the beast after it attacks your community than the god of going out and getting killed hunting creature that haven't bothered anyone yet. Iomedae is more the goddess of heroically seeking things out. But I ca certainly see an inquisitor of Erastil at work hunting down things that have been prove harmful. And then cooking them for the victory feast. Waste not, want not.

I don't know, Iomedae seems much more suited to a knight who would sally forth to vanquish undead, slay the dragon, or smite demons.

Erastil, on the other hand...

Erastil teaches his followers to embrace tradition and the old ways. Many of Old Deadeye's faithful never even enter a city, and his faithful can be found in nearly any wild or untamed region across Avistan

Strange, gruff outsider who silently stalks lions, tigers, bears, and worse (oh my!) who would threaten his community, *before* it becomes a true threat. I imagine a Red Riding Hood scenario, except as soon as the wolf tries to break into Grandma's house, it suddenly turns into a porcupine statue, stilled from the countless arrows that have found their way into its heart. Huntsman comes out of the woods, drags the body away. Neither Red, nor Grandma, know how close they were to lunch.

I second this. Iomedae's pretty Catholic-like in trappings, and her faithful are pretty much monster hunters by default. Her followers in Mendev fight demons for a living. Her followers in Lastwall hunt the undead and are engaged in a constant war with Belkzen's orcs. Her followers in her homeland of Cheliax have to contend with the devils that infest it every day. And her followers everywhere else have a tendency to throw themselves into situations with monsters in them because that's just how they roll. If you want to fight monsters as a career, you can't get a goddess who's more active in doing so than Iomedae.
