Are these guys just a couple of jumped up Men of Leng? Are they something else?
Just curious if it's ever been revealed who/what they are, where it might have been revealed (in the Legacy of Fire AP, perhaps?), or if it's one of those things that is a) yet to be revealed, and/or b) never going to be revealed, but left to individual GMs to decide.

It's in the Katapesh book. It turns out they're interplanar and/or extraterrestrial merchants. Their agenda is strictly mercantile. But it would be easy enough to change all that.

It's been revealed. Dark Markets has the scoop.

After reading James Jacobs' spoiler, I recalled that Distant Worlds was connected (and started to get some interesting thoughts and ideas vis a vis the Door to the Red Star and similar things Garundian), but didn't recall any specific entries about them. I guess I'll have to reread that excellent product later tonight! (That is, if my Skull and Shackles #2 and Blood of Fiends haven't arrived when I get home!)

Feeling? That is stated explicitly in their descriptions :)
Note that mercane are inherited after 3rd edition where planes mattered and there practically no interplanetary interaction - I am not 100% sure but I think that in earlier editions arcane (as they were known prior to 3rd edition) could be interplanetary merchants too - in Spelljammer at least.Their primary difference is that mercane are interested specifically in magic items, while witchwyrds lack such specific focus and seem to be more generic traders. Still, they can interact, trade or conflict.
Now I envision two stalls in the Sigil market on the opposite sides of the walkway with mercane and witchwyrd arguing and cussing each other.
