Can you change your familiar's beginning feat?

Rules Questions

I was building a 1st level wizard w/an owl familiar and started looking at Teamwork Feats. Shielded Caster grants a +4 concentration or Shake it off gives both wizard and familiar a +1 bonus to their saves as long as they're adjacent.

Owls normally begin w/Weapon Finesse getting them to a +5 melee attack. Can I instead trade that in for one of these Teamworks? I figure a +3 flying charge attack is still pretty decent if it ABSOLUTELY needed to attack, and trading that in for an extra permanent +1 to all my saves or another +4 to my concentration checks isn't a bad way to go.

Incidentally the build I'm going for is the blasphemous "Non-Witch Familiar Focused" wizard. I know; it's a worthless build. Still I'd like to try.

You'd have to talk to your DM about it, since it's basically be a houserule.

Familiars come with whatever is in their statblock. There's nothing saying you can swap out its feats for something else.

However, it wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility for your character to specifically hunt out an animal with different traits than your stock animal. (i.e. a different feat). But it'd be something to discuss with your DM.

*I* would say no. Basic animals don't get feats the same way PC do via leveling up. They don't get to choose. The weapon finess feat on the owl represents it's preferred (instinctual) method of hunting.

Don't think of weapon finess as a feat for the owl. Think of it as a racial ability.

The Exchange

It’s very much a dm fiat option here. Since there is no way via the core to make the change I’m going to lean towards no for society play and for RAW. But a dm my allow you to using the players handbook 2 option from 3.5 (pay 75 gold and train for a week)
