Eidolon Stats

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Do you think Paizo will allow Eidolon stats to be treated as a block of stats, rather than fixed.

For example, a biped has the following stats:

Biped
Str 16, Dex 12, Con 13, Int 7, Wis 10, Cha 11; Free Evolutions claws, limbs (arms), limbs (legs).

If you have the ability as a Summoner to give your Eidolon wings, extra arms, etc., why not have the ability to pick Eidolons with different stats?

You could treat the stats as they are: 16, 12, 13, 7, 10, 11 and assign them to the ability scores you think would fit your Eidolon best.

I know this sort of thing can be house-ruled, but I don't get why this wasn't part of the game design.

Seems like they basically designed the Eidolon to be a fighter, though they have the abilities to do other things, especially with an evolution that allows them to get a +8 bonus to one skill.

I don't know why, but the whole Eidolon concept just seems a bit broken to me, because you are limited by the type of creature you can summon based on the stats being fixed.

The thing is more customizable than most classes already, the last thing it needs is more room to be tweaked for min maxing.

I wasn't really going with min-maxing. More like fitting a concept better.

I'd be willing to cut back on what you can do with evolutions, as an exchange for moving stats around.

I mean not all outsiders have room temperature IQ's, for example.

Meh...guess it's just me then...

No, because that would majorly impact how the class operates, throw it further open to min-maxing and inconsistency, and more important is not a change that improves the overall flow of the game.

Paizo does not make major class changes once they're set in print unless a really good reason comes up. None have so far.

Unless your DM is PFS, you can always beg your DM for a pass. I'd probably not give it though if it was me.

Eidolon intelligence is limited for a very good reason -- they get many of the benefits of high intelligence as it is without actually having a high intelligence. Their open-ended list of class skills makes them great skill monkeys, and they can speak and understand every langauge that their masters do.

Their magical talents are deliberately limited to what their evolutions can grant, as their initial intelligence and charisma stats make it undesirable for them to max out the Use Magic Device skill in order to use wizard wands and scrolls freely (which leaves something for the summoner himself to specialize in).

Still, if you really want to, you can make an eidolon into a genius -- put all three of its ability score increases into that stat and take the Ability Increase (Intelligence) evolution every chance you get and you can have an eidolon with an intelligence of 18 by 18th level. With a tome and a headband of maximum power level you can get that score up to 29 (if you don't mind nerfing the summoner's charisma).
