Character Death

Advice

I'm just curious how others here handle new characters. Say you have a character die and the player makes a new one at 7th level. How do you handle starting money and equipment. If you have a bad streak and get two or three deaths quickly you can really start building up on the dead guys equipment and money.

Silver Crusade

Well

Depending on how they died, the rest of the party can take his gear or leave it with him. I mean if they got eaten... not good.

Then I'd say make the new character, and allow them to start with say... 75% of the wealth the last character had.

That helps avoid letting chracters die for the sake of getting more nice stuff.

Also if they die three times in a row, suggest the player get new dice.

in CRB there is a table for wealth after 1st lvl
you can use this to :-)

MY feeling is the equipment should be buried with the body. OOC it is so the party doesn't get overpowered. Things like wands and potions and scrolls can be lifted of course. My game I play in we are at or over WBL chart, so I would have the new player come in with the full gp as per the chart.
