Pre-Gen Credit

I just signed up for Origins, and accidentally got an event well above my characters' levels. I will need to play a pre-gen for that scenario. I cannot find the rules for using Pre-gens in non-module scenarios in the guide. Should I assume that they are the same as the rules for using pre-gens in sanctioned modules - that I may play a level appropriate pre-gen and apply the XP and reduced GP total to a newly created character?

Thanks!

Yes. You would apply whatever Prestige you get and 500gp to a brand new character.

You could assume that, and not be completely correct. Its funny, they took away the ability to make copies of your PC for higher level modules to make the pregen rules match with what the scenarios are, yet they made them different anyway.

If you don’t have time to create a new character or simply

wish to try out a new character class, you may choose to use
one of several level-appropriate pregenerated characters
available at paizo.com/pathfindersociety or from your
local event coordinator. If you play a 1st-level pregenerated
character, you can apply the credit for her first adventure
to a newly created character of your very own. If you play
a non-1st-level pregenerated character, you can apply
the credit to your character as soon as she reaches the
level of the pregenerated character played
. You may also
opt instead to apply the credit from the non-1st-level
pregenerated character played to a newly created character
with the GP gained reduced to 500 GP (or 250 for characters
using the slow advancement track).
Equipment listed on
the pregenerated character sheet may never be sold.

If you play a pregenerated character, you apply the credit
from the pregenerated character played to a newly created
character, with the GP gained reduced to 1,398 GP (or 699
for slow advancement track characters)
. Equipment listed
on the pregenerated character sheet may only be sold to
clear conditions, such as death, during the play of the
module and any remaining gold does not carry over at
the end of the module.

So, for modules the pregen HAS to go to a new character, while scenarios you get the choice of a new character or "saving it" until your character is the proper level.

Ok, I found the scenario pregen rules about holding scenarios until an existing character qualifies. Thanks for clearing that up!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

If Mike is looking for a way to simplify this, I would prefer the Save till X level rule for both modules and Scenarios, but if your pregen dies, the linked character dies.

I believe the mess about linking a character to a pregen was the main reason they decided not to allow saving a chronicle until the character reached the pregen's level in module play.

The issues are still there for scenarios, but I suspect that option will be removed in the next Guide update. In any case, I bet the rules will be merged to work the same for modules and scenarios in Guide 4.2.

Either way, to simplify things. One rule for both.
