What's Your Favorite Low-Level "One Shot" Module?

Grand Lodge

Hello friends! I am wanting to give my fiancee an intro into Pathfinder and roleplaying. She's never played a tabletop rpg before.

I'm looking for a module or scenario for characters starting level 1-3. Preferably one that's a "one shot", or at least can be completed in a maximum of 2-3 gaming sessions.

I'm looking for a great adventure that will showcase this hobby.

What would you recommend and why?

Thank you!

We Be Goblins!

LOL Although that adventure looks fun, I'm looking for an experience that will be representative so she can know if she'd like this or not. Usually (in my games at least) players don't play goblins. ;)

Liberty's Edge

I like Crown of the Kobold King. Really that whole series is good and very newbie friendly.

God's Mouth Heresy is brilliant.

"nbod's room" from dungeon magazine #51 (with the name changed, since i don't know how to pronounce "nbod").

For a more typical old-school dungeon crawl sprinkled with the Thassilon Runelords mythos and an adjustable amount of RP at the end, there's The Godsmouth Heresy. I particularly like the potential directions that the module's ending can go.

Crypt of the Everflame is also good, but IIRC it assumes some things about the PCs' backstories.

Great big +1 for Godsmouth Heresy. I am running it again this weekend (3rd time) and it is always fun. Grab City of Strangers for extra flavor and tons of hooks and ideas.

Crypt of the Everflame is more traditional, IMO, than Godsmouth Heresy. Crypt is also part 1 of a three-part series (Masks of the Living God, City of Golden Death) so if the first adventure is a success you can keep the same characters and move into two more follow-ons.

The Whispering Cairn (first adventure in the Age of Worms) in Dungeon 124 is my favorite low level adventure. My group finished it in 5 sessions, so it may be a bit long for what you're looking for. This could be shortened by cutting some of the side quest material.

Classic dungeon delve with side quests. Traps, and puzzles, and monsters. It's easily mutable to give as much or as little roleplaying as you want. It's 3.5, so you will have to do some conversions.

Like Charlie Bell said above about Everflame, if your fiancee likes it, it could serve as an awesome intro into a long running campaign, or you could drop all references to things that come later in Age of Worms and just run it as a one-shot dungeon delve.

The fights can be a bit brutal, especially if your players just run in to attack. This is the adventure where a player turned to me and said, "You're not messing around anymore, are you?"

Crown of the Kobold King is really awesome. However I think it would not be a one off. I think it would take multiple sessions to play though.

I ran Hollow's Last Hope for a whole bunch of new players, and they all enjoyed it a lot. It's 3.5 rules, but it only needs a tiny amount of adaptation. I think it took us 3 sessions, but there were 6 PCs.

Anybody recommend any Pathfinder Society Scenarios that would be easily adaptable? They're designed to be one-shots.

+1 for Crown of the Kobold King. Played with group of new players, they loved it.

For one-shots, I usually peruse the pathfinder society scenarios. The pdf's are cheap and the adventures are meant to be finished in one four-hour session.

Hollow's Last Hope is good for starters. There are some nice RP moments mixed in with the combat.

I love using Into the Haunted Woods as a beginning adventure:

-Starts with a quick easy combat
-Leads into a roleplaying encounter with a possible second combat
-Followed by a short Mystery and more roleplaying
-Quick wilderness quest with the opportunity for trapfinding and disabling, animal enounters for those druids and rangers, combat for the brick, roleplaying encounters as well, tracking possibilities, and even the chance to talk your way out of a battle and gain a fun ally in the process
-final battle with some interesting setpieces and situation
-VERY minor magic items with a backstory to get the players into the Golarion World.

And more...

I like it.

Seconded, thirded and fourthed!

+1 for Crypt of the Everflame as a first-first module...

The back story assumes you are a yoot, coming of age in a back water town. Through a confluence of circumstance, you are thrust into peril and adventure. Great by itself, and with the follow on modules, makes an excellent longer story arc...

+1 Whispering Cairn

Burnt Offerings is also awesome!!

Whispering Cairn is very good. My sentimental favourite is Citadel by the Sea from Dragon #78.
