Class Advice

Advice

I'm making a character for a campaign and I'm having a hard time deciding on a class choice.

It's nothing new, but the character is a teenage human girl-next-door that grew up amongst the elite/royalty with a distaste for the socialite lifestyle and a longing to be out on the battlefield.

She will most definitely wield a greatsword and I'd like to fluff her combat up with her being nimble and using her body weight and momentum to add some unique descriptors to her combat style.

She's headstrong and is willing to break the rules if she thinks the rules are stupid, but is otherwise a good person.

I'm debating on the following classes:

1. Fighter - Two-Handed Fighter or Weapon Master (Greatsword)

I like both of these choices because they display her strong inclination to mastering her fighting style, but it makes her seem a bit more of a loner than I would like.

2. Cavalier - Honor Guard

I like this choice a lot for the Teamwork feats and the thought of this teenager taking on a ward to protect in battle. Both of those abilities really appeal to me, but I don't really want a mount. I could also fluff her background and say that maybe she was trained by her personal bodyguard behind her family's back.

3. Paladin - Warrior of the Holy Light

I love the fluff in this class. Infusing the sword with power seems perfect for her, as well as giving up spells for bonus Lay on Hands and the aura of light surrounding her. I was originally planning to make the character Chaotic Good though. I think even by picking up a sword in the first place, she gave up the right to be Lawful Good.

Any thoughts? I'd appreciate any input. I should note that I'm not looking for the best class in combat. Just the best fit fluff wise.

I just can't decide... >.<

Urban barbarian could work.
But if you want nimble and mobile, then greatsword is a touch counter to that concept.

For special attacks I assume you are planning to use maneuvers, so lore warden might work. Lore wardens are also flavored as more educated fighters, which would fit your background.

For true nimble agile style, the is always the swordlord archtype into the swordlord prestige class... there is some emphasis on intimidate if that seems appropriate.

But everything you listed seems fine and should work. Martials are easy that way.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think barbarian is a good fit... definitely a wild streak built right into the class, and with uncanny dodge and fast movement (not to mention access to pounce) you can feel pretty nimble as well.

I don't know if you're familiar with Guild Wars 2, but the Greatsword Ranger is kind of what I mean by being agile and using a greatsword, but I didn't even think of Barbarian! I'm gonna check it out! The last thing I wanted was another choice to compete for my attention though hahah! Now I'm gonna be even more confused. Time to look at Urban Barbarian.

I just don't know. I keep going back and forth. I was actually thinking about the Barbarian for a while there, but then I found out there is already a Barbarian in the campaign, and ideally I'd like to not be the same class as another player.

This is the full class list currently...

1 Rogue
1 Samurai
2 Wizards
1 Oracle
1 Barbarian

Although, I'm honestly not a big min/maxer. I play more for fun and fluff.

Sure, but you have a concept and you want something that fits.
I get not wanting to share a class with anyone in the group. Feeling unique in a party is always one of my wishlist items too.

So fighter then? You can do ranger pretty effectively if you are okay working a pet into your backstory. Perhaps some exotic gift from a parent or a gaurd dog that you adopted?

Although I still think that a cunning duelist type could fit well. And it would make you a very good defensive character, plus you get to play all brash and taunt people.

If you want to take a look at a build just let me know the point buy or stat array and the starting level. We can look at whatever class you're interested in.

Rogue with scout archetype, Power attack, furious focus, vital strike and maybe sap feats. Or mobility and spring attack if you want to focus even more on "nimble".

Dip one level in urban barbarian or 4 levels in fighter. This would just be a really strong choice and really flavorful. Just dont worry about the other rogue in the party - he probably wont be compareable in any aspect at all.

Here's an example - you can use a greatsword instead and pick upnspring attack instead of the sap-stuff if you want to.

Silver Crusade

The Elven Curved Blade can be used with weapon finesse, and teamed up with the large allotment of fighter feats you could do very well in that class. Get the Agile enchantment to add DEX to damage.

If you like heavy armor, stick with the base fighter, but some of the archetypes can really put a good finish on the character.

Then there are possible dips, such as Rogue and Ninja, to get you skills as class skills, and some ranks to beef up Acrobatics and such.
