Reavers

So, after watching one of my favorite shows, I have started to think about how to add Reavers to the campaign. I will start it with rumors about sailors gone mad at sea destroying ports, pirates, and merchants alike. Stat wise I am thinking barbarians. Anyother ideas might even add the Reavers floatila. Yes, I am completely ripping of firefly. Should do a .floatila or Miranda with a black pearl from Savage tide type crazyness to the island.

dot.

I wouldn't limit them to one single class. Chaotic evil cannibalistic rapist fits pretty well with a variety of classes, and it might help to have a few noteable differences from the Firefly reavers, just to make it your own.

Glad you mentioned the black pearl. That's exactly what came to mind when I started reading your post. I'll check back to see what progress you make on this...I like the idea a lot.

hmm...reavers could be a template. i'm not sure how i'd go about making one for 'em but you could probably just borrow something close to what fits your ideal 'reaver' and adjust as necessary.

I like the idea of using the old 'exploding pearl of madness/insanity' from Savage Tide. that was an awesome adventure path...damn shame it'll never get reprinted (damn you WoTC! *shakes tiny fist*).

This brings to mind images of Davy Jones' barnacle-covered crew.

Reavers in general remind me of bound humanoids from the Dungeon Siege II: Broken World expansion. (Incomplete image reference) Reaver spellcasters could be similarly bound, gagged, and blinded when "unused" by the mundane reavers. When combat begins, a weaker reaver could pull off one of those caster's blindfolds and gags only to be incinerated before the reaver mage turns its attentions to the PCs.

The Berserker Cannibal from Lands of the Linnorm Kings is almost exactly what you are talking about. The only limitation being they don't have much in the way of shipbuilding skills & are consequently rarely found elsewhere. Make that one change & there you go!

I think the earlier idea of using the "savage creature" template from savage tide would be best. It is on page 47 of DUNGEON issue 140. (I know because it is sitting open on my desk at the moment) It is perfect for incorporating reavers into Skull & Shackles, and I say that as a proud Browncoat. Add that template to even a low level barbarian and you get a chillingly vicious combatent that can move base 50' (in light armor) , has an infectious bite, can rage, and explodes (and bites) when killed. If a shipload of those doesnt make your PC's soil themselves, then I dont know what will.

Shadow Lodge

You might consider taking a look at Breaking of Forster Nagar, it's an adventure published by rite publishing, they use an enemy who is essentially exactly what you describe, canibalistic savages who are invading a city of ice...

It's a really well written adventure written by Ben McFarland with cartography from Jonathan Roberts (who is working on the official Game of Thrones maps) and edited by (now) Paizo's Mark Moreland.

Kind of a hidden gem in the RPG world, well worth the $10 for the PDF and... mostly on topic :P

Reaver-like barbarians called the kuru are in the Isles of the Shackles sourcebook.

Dark Archive

DM Jeff beat me too it, but the Kuru are perfect for simulating the Reavers. They even have shark-like teeth!

You might also want to look in at the material from Savage Tide, that campaign featured mutated rage pirates as some of the antagonists.
