Dwarf with other attribute penalties?! Or Half Dwarf Race?

Homebrew and House Rules

Hi guys a friend of mine wants to play a dwarven oracle but with the penalty on charisma and the plus on wisdom this is really contraproductive. My question is now if there are any other types of dwarves which dont have the penality on charisma our if it is possible to make an half dwarf race like the half elven one. Let me know what u think about it thx.

Well there is always the upcoming Advanced Race Guide (and its playtest, if its still available). There was also a dwarf subrace in forgotten realms called the gold dwarf, which instead of having a penalty to charisma they had one to dexterity. The gold dwarf of course would require conversion, though it shouldn't be too hard.

Best of luck to you sir (and very nice picture, looks very familiar for some reason)

I personally don't like the idea of half-dwarves. They feel to reclusive and just... don't feel like they would interbreed much. But whatever.

Switching -Cha to -Dex should be quite balanced and makes some sense for a dwarven subrace.

The ½ dwarf race is long overdue; as is the gnomling.

I can not wait for the Adavanced Race Guide.

Liberty's Edge

I personally allow Dwarves to always take Dex instead of Cha as their penalty if they like (and allow Halflings and Gnomes to do the same with Str and Wis). This expands character options for the races in question significantly without being broken mechanically (since Wis and Dex are both really good stats that penalties to suck) or inappropriate thematically (since low Dex is appropriate to Dwarves as presented, and low Wis appropriate to both Gnomes and Halflings).

That would be my first choice. Swap out the Charisma penalty for a Dexterity penalty, and go for it. Dexterity penalty rationalization could be based off of stubby fingers (less manual dexterity), a slow, deliberate world-view (slower reactions), etc. Since Craft skills are Int-based, he's still be as fine a smith or craftsman as you want him to be, and with the loud, boisterous 'larger than life' commanding presence that befits a dwarf!
