Annoying CG Intelligent Weapon

Liberty's Edge

Hello folks.
I have a PC in my campaign (barbarian 4, falchion two-handed focus) who is a rather impious follower of Cayden Cailean. In order to get her more involved, I wanted Cayden to blesscurse her with an obnoxious intelligent weapon to kinda chivvy her along into being more proactive. I know the personality and how I'll run the weapon, but the rules for intelligent weapons utterly mystify me. Can anyone help me out with some weapon design? Falchion would be the preferred base. Her feats at the moment are Power Attack, Cleave, and Furious Focus.

I'm really looking forward to having her sword urge her to overthrow every single LE person in Cheliax.

Liberty's Edge

How powerful a sword are we talking, here?

Assuming a minimal power level:

+1 Falchion
Alignment: CG, Ego 5 (9 vs. people going against it's purpose)
Int 12, Wis 10, Cha 10
Special Powers: Speech, 60 ft senses.
Languages: Common, Celestial,
Purpose: Defeat LE people and things.
Value: 4,000 GP

And that's it. Now, that seems a little weak to me, so I'd probably up it's powers, but I don't know what you want to give it, so...

Well I was planning on making it a legacy weapon so it gets more powerful as she does the right stuff, so having a weak base would be fine.

Well then, there it is.

The rules on it are pretty simple from here: Whenever it's value goes up, check the table at the end of the intelligent weapons section, it's Ego will gradually increase a bit based on said value. Whenever it gets an Intelligent Item only ability (which you can grab whenever you like), it's Ego will increase a set amount.

That's really just about it. Though on a non-intelligence related note, I'd have it gain Furious pretty quickly, followed by Holy. Just because those are fun to have together and seem appropriate.

Here is how I would handle it in-game.

Assuming the PC's abilities are high enough that the weapon can't take over, hand the player notes every so often that say things like:

"You hear a voice in your mind telling you, the Assistant Ambassador from Cheliax is hiding things from you. He's probably setting you up to take the blame when the conference breaks up."

"You just caught yourself almost giving the Celiaxian Prince the finger. Luckily you managed to stop yourself in time. You don't know what you were thinking."

Anytime the player takes ability damage or anything that would bring the sword closer to taking over give another note that is more strongly worded.

"You feel your hand trying to draw the blade. You just know if the blade is drawn you won't be able to stop yourself taking a swing at the devil priest even infront of a witness. You manage to clasp your hands behind your back to keep from drawing the blade."

"You apparently woke up everyone at the Inn yelling in your sleep. Something about how you were going to destroy all the devils and anyone working with them. You are getting alot of nervious stares over breakfast this morning."

I like it better when the sword doesn't speak but only communicates with the wielder telepahtically.
But you can always give the sword speach and have it insult or disrupt talks with the foes.

Minor point: the GP value of the weapon listed above is 4075gp, not 4000gp. You have to include the base cost of the falchion.

D'oh! You're right. Actually, it needs to be Masterwork too, which makes the total cost 4,375 GP.

Not a huge deal since he's being gifted with it, but definitely worth noting. My bad.
