Once upon a time, TSR made the Deities & Demigods book for D&D. Mr. Michael Moorcock gave permission for the Elric-of-Melnibone mythos to be used in D&D. The very first printings of the Deities & Demigods book contain the gods of the world of Melnibone, but then they were removed.
The original illustrations, by Jeff Dee, were destroyed. Now, with the kind permission of both Wizards of the Coast AND Michael Moorcock, they're being re-created.
The new versions maintain the stylized proportions that were characteristic of Jeff's early works: long long legs with oval thighs, big hands, pointy chins, and so on.
Prints are being awarded to those who backed this project. If you'd like to collect a set yourself, here's the link:

Wow this guy was 100% my favourite all time artist for D&D, his stuff was so hyper stylised and evocative that for me he almost completly defined my vision of the game; Brom being the artist that defined DarkSun.
I'm still looking for a way to get a poster size version of the Deities and Demigods artwork :)

If it fails then you don't pay and the project doesn't kick off.
I'm waiting for the Deities and Demigod cover redux (if there is one) or a Vault of the Drow series.
You talked me into it ;-)
I'm nervous he's not going to make that goal by Monday, though I pledged a high amount. Emailed a few friends that hopefully will join, too.
Keep hope alive!

Thanks for this! I love the artwork from 1st ed, and never had the version of Deities and Demigods with this artwork (one friend had it, and one found it for sale on the streets of NY for about $5, the lucky bastard).
I got my mint condition copy for the same price at all places, a potpurri shop in Jersey City.
