Can an Urban Druid take Animal (or Terrain) domains?

Rules Questions

The Urban Druid archetype (from the Advanced Players Guide) says:

Quote:
Nature Bond (Ex): An urban druid may not select an animal companion. Instead, she must choose from the following domains, rather than those usually available to druids: Charm, Community, Knowledge, Nobility, Protection, Repose, Rune, or Weather.

In particular note that this is still a Nature Bond, just modified.

But this was written before the Ultimate Magic book which says the following in the section about Animal and Terrain domains:

Quote:

Presented in the section below are new rules for animal and terrain domains—domains for druids whose focus is more specific than the Animal, Plant, Weather, or elemental domains. A druid with the nature's bond ability can choose an animal domain or terrain domain. Just like cleric domains, animal and terrain domains have granted powers and domain spells, and a druid who selects an animal or terrain domain gains a domain spell slot at each level. A druid who worships a deity (as opposed to nature in general) cannot select an animal or terrain domain that contradicts or is outside of the portfolio of her deity.

If an animal or terrain domain ability calls for a saving throw, the DC of the save is equal to 10 + 1/2 the character's druid level + her Wisdom modifier.

Other nature-themed classes with access to domains may select an animal or terrain domain in place of a regular domain.

So one way to read this would be that even if an Urban Druid's nature bond is so different as not to be covered by the first part of this section that the second part about "other nature themed classes with domains" might still apply and allow for an Urban Druid to take an animal (or terrain) domain.

Clearly in a home game this would be subject to GM approval - as a GM I would basically say that Urban Druids could take animal or terrain domains that make sense for the urban community they are most closely associated with - i.e. many animal domains might make sense as they would still be in (some) urban areas - monkey's are certainly at home in many urban settings as are eagles/hawks and in some settings serpants, wolfs and toads. Sharks would unlikely though possible in an aquatic centric city.

But I'm playing in PFS so need to understand what the RAW & PFS rules would be. Both the animal domains and the Urban Druid archetype are PFS legal so that isn't an issue - just whether the combination of selecting both would be legal.

wow...
i was aware of the first one, which by RAW would seem to allow urban druid's to select those domains, although plausibly it seems against the intent. but the second option, 'any nature themed class with domains' really doesn't seem to even have any intent problems with urban druids.

i would say 'yes' to PFS legal, until Paizo clarifies otherwise.

...what is the concept you're trying to do here?
if it is a coherent character concept and not gonzo min-maxing, i encourage you to go with it.

They might have left the name alone, which was probably an oversight, but it is clearly not the same nature bond ability. The text in the urban druid's ability states that they must choose a domain from that alternate list rather than what is usually available to them. If the animal or terrain domains still had an urban vibe, I would say go for it, but I just had a look at them and they don't seem very urban at all.

Liberty's Edge

'Cept ... the Monkey Domain. Provides a monky familiar, bonuses to Acrobatics, Climb, Disable Device, and Sleight of Hand, and Ranged Legerdemain at 6th. The Ranged Legerdemain ability in particular seems to scream urban.

Grand Lodge

Yeah, clerics, inquisitors, and druids (even urban druids) can take animal and terrain domains.
